I went with the FA13V ones in the end, as I found a cheaper supplier!

Thanks for your help!

Good luck with the SBS ones, they squealed when I used them.
They're now in a box under my bench with other bits and bobs labelled shite...

I'd complete an more in depth version of Bryan's assessment.

If you've transmitted any grit or other debris into the bearing by cleaning, then they can sound bad.

Really wash it independently (only tgat shaft and bearing) with something like paraffin, then clean that all with strong mix of washing up liquid to completely remove anything that's in the bearing.

Completely dry it with compressed air or hairdryer, then you can recheck for any unwanted radial movement.

Now put clean engine oil into bearing and assess what it's like for smooth movement.

Thats a good idea. But I think I'm going to be better safe than sorry and while its fully stripped replace parts that can be replaced. Some of the bearings in the crank case were pretty bad. I'll clean them up once they're off and if they seem ok see if anyone would like them.

Just spoke to John http://johnoldfield.co.uk/ and he has some in stock so I've ordered them. I'm already in deep so whats another £100   :'(
It generally takes alot to wear them, any unwanted grit makes them feel awful if not cleaned out.

Yes they are pressed on, is the bike going to be a daily driver high mileage or an ocasional weekend use?
If 1 i would pay out
If 29 i would put engine oil in them and if smooth and quietish use them as if it dont work you only need lower case off to replace and your time

Weekend use but thinking about it and the gunk that was in the sump I think its best to replace them then.

Do you know any other places that might stock them? Are they a very specific bearing? I've not rang up anywhere yet but just looking on google and only yamiya and cmnsl have them.

CB350/400 / 5205HS transmission bearing

Possibly made a cock up. Ive been cleaning all the transmission gears, shafts etc and it looked like the 5205HS bearings are really stuck on. So I left them on and cleaned the parts with degreaser and petrol. Before cleaning they sounded perfectly find and didn't feel rough but now they are a bit noisy and don't feel as smooth. I'm not sure if I cocked up or its because they have no oil on/in them anymore. I've sprayed a bit of bulldog BDX penetrating oil/lube on them and they seem a bit better. Would they be safe to use or should I fork out the almost £100 for 2 new 5205HS bearings? Does anyone know any sources other than yamiya?

Should they be hard to get off? Are they pressed on?

Difficult to use FB when you’re not a member.

I know what you mean about FB Steve but closed groups like the CB72/77 UK are truly excellent ..with absolutely no nonsense (unlike the 400 and 750 ones where everyone is a so-called expert) ...if you own a CB72 or other early 1960s Honda and not a member you are seriously missing out IMHO.

Very nice work Dave, hopefully you'll get the exhaust you want to complete it.

The picture of Sheene on early RG 500 behind the bike, I saw the first one he rode UK meeting at Mallory Park and have some pictures somewhere as we were allowed to wander around the pits at that time.

BTW my pic was from the mega money push-mile bike
.was it £16k ? It went for at auction at Silverstone Auctions. Seems the routing was all wrong.Always had my doubts about that bikes authenticity. Wonder who bought it?
