Project Board / Re: Newbie '78 CB750 K8 (US) Cafe Build
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:45:27 PM »
What about a 400 four tank they fit straight on or cx 500 they look good on the 750

I have looked at the 400f tank, but it has a slightly sharper angle than the CB750f. The CX500 one does look pretty cool, though. I'll have a play around on Photoshop later and see what I think!
This may be of use from when I was playing with ideas for a similar project. Don't laugh guys very rough ideas and scale not really right etc. I was toying with the idea of welding 2 tanks together per a rather tasty black cafe built by a member on here ( think he was Swedish user name DME?).

What are you on about James? Cable tie  ???

How to mount motorcycle tire with zipties: http://youtu.be/S6WPzRRJLpA

Probably this above as a method.

Just a small point about using washing up liquid,  it contains salts for cleaning usually which isn't in commercial tire products and may promote corrosion on old chrome rims or bare alloy.  A ready alternative could be car shampoo.
Looked at that and I don't have enough tattoos to do it!

That looks excellent. Well done Julie...... flash git! :P

So impressed Julie. Carbs in my mind are the hardest bit of any on these bikes to strip and bebuild.

Other Bikes / CB100N values??
« on: April 19, 2018, 10:07:25 PM »
Got the chance of a low mileage very original CB100N. No particular interest in the model but maybe good to move it on to finance other things...

Got no photos etc to post at the moment but just wondering what it could be worth as I say. 1982, less than 10k miles original exhaust, good history. Ball park value?

Appreciate any input.

Just googled Orkney Men's Shed as never heard of it. What a great idea in using skills one enjoys and helping the community  to boot.

I always use My Hermes International when sending tanks etc to Menno. Touch wood, never had a problem so far.
Hermes international! Most deliveries we get from them are out the back of owner driver Vauxhall Corsas... what's the gig with International - Austin Ambassador? ;) ;D ;)

Seriously, top tip though Julie, expensive kit to go missing when done.

Hi all, my wife has just become the proud owner of a Piaggio x8 125 automatic scooter so that she can join me on rides (slow ones!),
Don't do yourself down, surely the old CR is up to it Mark!
I love these technical questions,  you always learn something to store in the old memory banks.

CB350/400 / Re: Stafford bike show
« on: April 12, 2018, 07:58:56 AM »
It used to be that way but these days both shows are exactly the same. The prices are unbelievable, usually for old tat that they can't sell anywhere else. Were not bothering with Stafford anymore, although if your prepared to fight through huge crowds that elusive part can sometimes be found.
Well put. I woukd say worth the experience if you did not have such a long drive.

Also at the Cardiff show were these creations.  Very reminiscent of Alan Millyard's engines but made decades ago.
That BSA  V6 is something. Well done on the show result too.

Can anyone see any justification in paying so far over the odds for this oxidised marvel?

I agree with you Tim ..no ! Interesting eBay handle that seller has.
Hadn't seen the handle. As in Powel?

Yes the bike may be very complete and can be restored but every surface needs serious attention. Motor seized too.

Everything is doable at a cost but thats too much money for the starting project. From what little I know of the 400 market and relatively recent purchases, that is £400 over at best. (IMHO  ;) )
