Title: Picture for Hairygit
Post by: Trigger on June 06, 2019, 01:53:24 PM
Thank you for all your time last year with the charging problem on my 750 charging with the headlight on. I had time today to strip it down and found a few melted wires in the main loom. This may be because when i put the first regulator on it, was pushing out more than 16v.

That certainly wouldn't help! What condition are the connectors in, bright and shiny or dull/corroded? Dull or corroded connectors drastically increase resistance, and create a lot of heat, a common fault especially with fuseboxes on old bikes.

Thats where 33% of your charging current went.
Bet its all good with the wire fixed, stong beasts these Honda systems(except Goldwing ones)

A good result. Its always nice when you find something. Out of curiosity had the yellow completely broken or did you notice if there was still a odd strand of wire to the connector.  :)

Still a few strands  :o
Were do these three wires end up ? I take it that i will have to strip the loom and replace the damaged yellow wires.

IF I remember right the three yellows are from the alternator. The chances are that will be the only damage. Repair that section and all should be good. I would cut the harness wrap back cut that section of yellow out back to decent wire and solder joint some new in and rewrap the harness. Depends how deep you want to get into it.

Only to the rectifier I think. I need a diagram.  :-[

Yep, to rectifier.  Comes out of alternator in AC,  goes to rectifier to convert to DC then controlled by by monitoring to be correct voltage by regulator.

They all run in a line out from generating through each stage to supply loom.

Sorry Mike, but to those of us who are engineers by profession, that is a "statement of the bleedin' obvious" :)
