Hi guys, this makes me feel really old, my grandson has a CR85R (2006) and recently had problems with it, I have never worked on 2 strokes before but gave in to family pressure and had a look at it. Pulling the head and barrel off revealed the problem, the piston ring had a chip missing, this must have got trapped between the piston and barrel and took a chunk out of the piston, the coating (chrome) on the barrel is very worn by the exhaust area. This is all fixable and is no problem but I turned the engine over the other day and the crankcase must have a level of oil in it, is this normal ? should it be drained periodically ? the bike runs on a 2 stroke mix so presumably the oil builds up, should I leave it ?
Cheers

I finally finished all my house renovating work and decided to blow the cobwebs off the old F1 (and me) and had a ride out to the Ponderosa (Horseshoe pass), there was a nice bog standard yellow CB750 F1 there, but it was a V reg very strange. Anyone on here the owner ?

Has anyone got any experiences of this, I used to use maps and sections of maps on my tank bag to navigate around the place but having used a GPS in the car I'm sold on the idea. However I was appalled at the price of dedicated bike GPS systems, as I already have 2 sat navs I was not impressed with the idea of buying a third. So I went down the waterproof container route, as the bike does not go out in the rain this is a bit of over kill (mind you it is the UK so I could get caught out). I went for the ridermount fittings ( http://ridermount.com/products.asp?pl=gpsmounts) for my Tom Tom ONE, it looks robust enough and I will give it a test ride soon, just wondering if anyone else has gone down this route. Just been for a day out to Bodelwyddon Castle and am getting fed up with the vibration on the mirrors, I did put some old rubber damping blocks on but above about 65 mph they are useless. Apart from slowing down, any cures/suggestions out there ?

Well it's well made, looks nice and shiny but I'm fed up with cleaning plugs, running rich and using a lot of petrol, so the Dunstall has gone back on, will see if things improve, as I never had these problems in the past. Cheers Den

Hi guys, Been reading about these on the US site, the F1 is tucked up in bed now as my geriatric knees do not like the cold however I want to keep the bike ready to roll, so is there a UK equivelant, something to keep the battery in top condition and ready to roll ?

Well at last I have a steel rear mudguard for the F1, found it on eBay listed as a CB750K mudguard, looks tatty but is solid and undented, YIPPEE. All I need to do now is find a NOS tank that someone bought and has kept in the loft since 1976 and wants to sell it for

Well the bike ran great on the Aintree run, except that I noticed that the wife (leading me in the car) was being very aggressive with the speed limits in Liverpool (loads of speed cameras) especially the 30 mph ones. A test run today at 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mph proved the Honda's speedo is 7 mph fast at all speeds. No wonder it didn't like 30 mph speed limits ! But it also showed me what a wimp I have become, struggling to hold on to 70-80 mph on the motorway ! But boy was it gusty. The only problem I had was when I dropped Dean off at home I turned the bike off to have a ciggie, and when I turned it back on I had nothing, no electrics whatsoever, took the side panel off, I just touched the fuse box cover and it all came back, so today I have taken the fuse box off and cleaned all the contacts, hope it cures it, it was OK on the test run. Plus I have to keep putting petrol in the thing !

Well by dodging the rain and family commitments I've put about 120 miles on the F1, still some teething troubles to sort out and some sorted already: 1. Left fork seal leaking, stripped and new seal and fork tube fitted. 2. Front brake MC overhauled again after accidently refilling it with fork oil, discovered this when I could not find the fork oil after job 1. just this big brown bottle of brake fluid (stupid boy) all brake lines flushed out. Will change out the caliper seal tomorrow. 3. Tacho drive seal changed, it's leaked for years and it's time was up ! 4. Carbs synched but tickover still rough, suspect the pilot jet passages are semi plugged, overhauling a spare set of carbs just in case. 5. No.4 plug sooting up, plugs changed out but discovered they are the wrong plugs, DR8ES-L instead of D8EA, the R stands for resistor, thought the spark was a bit yellow/orange. The resistor is fitted so that it doesn't interfere with the bikes ECU or CDI ignition ! Will test ride tomorrow to see if this works, if not will check the float level (again), No3 is a bit sooty as well but not as bad as No. 4. The other likely cause could be my too quiet BSM silencer, maybe a few holes might appear in it. 6. Ignition timing, had one hell of a job getting 2&3 lined up, looking closer the post on the points was bent, so they were replaced and all is well. The entire points plate was replaced during the rebuild, so I may have caught it with a spanner when I was turing the engine over. Still to be addressed, front brake squeel, tickover, sticky (dragging) clutch and dodgy rider.
Cheers

Hi guys, I know I need to synch my carbs but trying to keep the old F1 under the 30 speed limit is not easy, it likes passing through 30 as I accelerate and change gears but certainly does not like cruising there, I'm up and down the gears with my nose on the speedo. I remember having the same problem in the olden days but there are so many more 30 limits now, anyone else have the same problem with their bike ?

Watch out for an old greying biker on a black CB750F1 wobbling about the highways and byways of the NW of England, MOT passed, insured, and taxed, just need to get a pair of boots now.
