Is it just me but why does Hondabond go off so quickly in the tube when only a bit is used and the lid is put back on :(. I've just been to the workshop drawer to get the tube of Hondabond out in preperation for the return of the Z400 engine cases next week and it's gone rock hard! I only opened it three years ago to do the RSA250 cases and hardly any was used. At £18 a tube it's very expensive to use only a thin smear and then find the rest has gone off.
Has anyone got any tips how to prolong the shelf life?

try some blue Hylomar instead it's only £6.50 a tube.
That's what we used in the 70's when I worked in a Honda dealers and that's what I used recently to assemble my F1 cases.

Thanks both. I have ordered a new tube of Hondabond and will use it on the Z400 but if it goes off again I'll be using Hylomer (do you know Hylomor was developed by Rolls Royce (as was carbon fibre and that bankrupted RR in the 70's, RR devleoped it for use in the RB211 engine)).
Shame I can't use Hondabond on the Triton engine when I put it back together but that will need Wellseal.

It only goes off because it is not stored correctly :o Once a tube is open and the air can get to it, it will go off. Once open, cut a finger off a nitrile glove and put it over the tube, replace the cap to seal. Put the whole tube in a seal bag ;) But, i have never had one for three years ::)
Try to cut the bottom of the tube, there maybe some that has not gone off.

It's wellseal and gaskets Bryan. Wellseal on first on the mating face, let it go tacky and then put the gasket on followed by another coat of wellseal on the gasket prior to bolting up. I run a belt drive on the primary so that's one big potential area for an oil eliminated!

My old T110 had grease on paper gaskets and hylomar on metal to metal, only place that leaked was pushrod tube seals

With the Triton, ensure all the faces are flat and pay special attention to the bolt holes, these tend to pull up a bit.

As you know the solvent base just evaporates - Tiger Seal is used in the Automotive Trade to glue on plastic wings etc. It's a brilliant adhesive but once you open the tube its solid within a week or less - really expensive if you only want the amount you would put on a tooth brush at around £9.00 a 300 ml tube!
