Title: 550 F2 Rear Indicators
Post by: Bro550F on April 26, 2022, 03:13:55 PM
Hi, having acquired a grab rail, I need rear indicators with the large diameter opening to take the larger spigot which goes on the grab rail, as per pics.
I'll swap for the smaller diameter spigot and indicators or buy them, whichever is best.

The larger type of indicators are not the same shape, they are a dish shape. The smaller diameter indicator brackets are quite rare now, even I only have one set but I have 4 grabrails. If you change the back indicators you'll most likely have the change the fronts to match and then you run into the same problem. Saying that I may have the front stems in the large size.

Thanks Ken,
Do you have the large rear indicators?
Not too bothered about the shape. Surely they are the original shape fitted to the grab rail.

Depends on the market they were intended for. US got the large dish type found on the 550K3 over here. Uk got the type you've got shown. Personally I prefer the UK type, the large type just don't do it for me. Not sure if I have any, anyone with a 550 import who changed them for UK type would have them spare I'd imagine. I'll have a look around. I'll also see what the large type of stems were I saw the other day, either front or back. I know I've seen back ones somewhere.

But UK bikes came with Grabrails, doesn't this mean that they had the large diameter stem too?

the stems on the 550 f2 uk model are unique as the US and all other markets used the larger dish shape indicators so had a fatter stem. Also you can't use the standard early 500/550 stems as the distance between the screw mount and the locating stub are different. If you need some of the USA type i think i have a pair.

Found the large type adapters for the front indicators, they are female type, whereas the 550F2 has male type indicator mounts so to use them you'd need to change the fork ears as well.

The brackets you want are 33607-390-600, very rare these days. Only fitted to UK, European Direct and French 550F2s. CMS have 1 in stock at £58 or so. Also 1 at Honda4parts.nl .DS also has 1 in stock.

There are some male large type indicator stems for the front, 90154-404-610, just found a pair on the web.

Thanks Ken,
I think I'd just need the larger diameter rears for now, just so I have working indicators. The bike isn't 100% original anyway.

is it just the larger indicators you need or the mounting bracket, the one on the pic looks like the large one and would not fit the indicator shown on the pic.

Hi,
I have the large mounting bracket with large diameter stem to fit a grab rail so just need the indicator with large diameter hole. As you say the one in the pic is the small one and doesn't fit.

Thanks again, I'm not that fussed with the front, but might be if they really stand out as being different.

I found a couple of decent indicators, they have a few pits and scratches but overall not bad. Genuine stanley items, how about £10 plus post cost? trying to post pic but cant do at the moment.
