Title: Clutch cable guide
Post by: Laverdaroo on May 03, 2023, 10:37:51 AM: Could anyone tell me the DEFINITE place for this clutch cable guide, I just can’t remember and after trying to put it in various places, apart from the fact it fouls the tank I can’t for the life of me remember where it went and how. Post by: Oddjob on May 03, 2023, 07:35:26 PM: I seem to recall it was fitted to the end bolt on the breather cover, the reason I seem to think this is correct is that A. The cable wouldn't run over the cover and thus may be abraided by the cover as it would in Teds position, which looks to me like one of the rear bolts and B. The metal ring is shaped so it fits over the bolt hole, the shape of that makes sense for it to be at 90 degrees to the bolt, which I don't think it can do on a back bolt.

I seem to recall it being located so that it threw the cable off at an angle like that from when it was taken apart. Just rings a distant bell. I’ll have a look….

Post by: rbt1548 on May 04, 2023, 07:55:50 AM: Here is a picture of mine, as Oddjob states it is fitted to breather cover, however mine is fitted to the bolt at the back of the cover, it seems to run smoothly enough and without fouling the tank, and with the raised edges on the bracket where it bolts to the cover it can only go the one way up, although, I suppose if it was to be fitted onto the end bolt as Oddjobb says it could go either way as the raised edges would clear the cover at the bolt.

Just checked for clearance, it is a clear 3/4" from the breather box top and, although it doesn't look like from the angle of the pic, a good 1 3/4" to 2" clearance from the rocker cover.

Yes Ted, it sits almost directly under the coils, so with the tank clearing the coils it will clear the cable holder.

Honda wouldn't have put the flanges on the ring unless they had a use.

That does make sense and is probably correct.

I will leave mine as it is just now as I am content with it and would need to disconnect the cable to take the guide off and turn it the other way round. Once I take the cable off I will try it in the location suggested by Oddjob.

Thanks very muchfor info, I thought it was a solid ring.

I tried it on the end bolt, apart from showing that the ring was a tad rusty, I felt that the cable run wasn't so smooth and the cable bent a bit, I feel the cable got a cleaner run when it is fitted to the back bolt, so I have put it back there, a couple of pics below to show the run when fitted to end bolt.

It is indeed a strange one.

I am just going to leave my own as it is as I prefer the run of the cable.

I agree with your observation - the bolt end anti rotation tabs design does not seem to tally with a back bolt position.
