Title: Screw it I'm going for it
Post by: Green1 on March 05, 2014, 10:59:32 PM
Just checked my old MOT's and iv only covered around 200miles this year totally unacceptable.
So I'm using the bike no matter what tomorrow.
No idea if it will start or if theirs even fuel in it but it's going to do the 150mile trip weather it likes it or not.

Well I got up late this morning but I'm a man of my word.
It took ten minutes to dig her out and the battery was as dead as a dodo Thank god for the kick start
So fuel on ignition on one good kick and she fires up first time. :) 5 miles down the road I decided she felt a bit heavy so pulled into a petrol station 16psi in the front and 19 in the rear.No sooner than pulling up a trucker appears and starts telling me about the good old days and his 750k2 and than someone else appeared telling me that there now on the lookout for a 400/4.By the time I jump back on the bike a good 30 minutes had passed. So as I rejoined the A12 I thought I should get a move on strait up to 5000rpm and hold it there till Copdock that's a good 25/30 miles. After that everything felt incredibly slow so back up to 5000rpm until I reached Bury St Edmund's that's another 40 mile covered by this time my arms and neck were aching but well worth it my face aches more from smiling from ear to ear.By the time I got to West Stow I was diverted and head in the wrong direction I stopped to ask for directions in Risby and talk to a nice chap that has a 750 and 500/4 with original pipes.Another 10/15min chat and back on the bike and on to Mildenhall it took me nearly 3 and a half hours to get to work I turned up with no tools and gone 10 but I would happily do it again.
I achieved quit literally nothing at work just couldn't wait to get back on it and do it again all in I covered 163 totally trouble free riding.
 :) :)

I would love to use the bike tomorrow but unfortunately I need the truck.
Sat here at the moment thinking about tyres as mine feel a little wooden I just can't decide what I want.
I'm torn between Conti rb2's and Avon roadriders.
I think I may have to start a poll to make my mind up for me.

I'm using Dunlop TT100'S on one of my 750's and Dunlop K70 Goldseal's on the other both seem ok for a 1970's bike  ;) cheers Mick.

At the moment the bike has IRC Gs-11's on it not actually a bad tyre just getting a bit old.
I did consider TT100/K82's but can't find one to fit the back and totally forgot about K70's
I'm just not sure about modern tyres on an old bike they just don't look right.
