Had our 10'x10' with 3 pitched sides done last year. £10k but has made a world or difference as it is now used as a normal room.  I needed smelling salts when we first got the quote, but when I saw the amount of work involved, it made it a little easier.  So glad we had it done now.

If any members here have a wife/husband whose only income is the state pension or is under pension age with no income or on a low income do not forget you can apply for the married persons allowance and transfer it to the higher earner.

HMRC will pay in arrears I think it's for 3 tax years including the current year.  Its an allowance of an additional £1260 a year tax free added to your tax code. (I got about £750 refunded by HMRC as I applied for it just before the new tax year - this was about 5 years ago.) Only benefits folk with one spouse on a low income or a partner who is paying the higher rate of income tax.

HMRC do not do this automatically - it was introduced to benifit married couples but you have to apply for the transfer. https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance

We have done that.  It near enough pays for my 4 bike insurance policies averaging £70 apiece.  Totally agree on the ever increasing cost of spares.

I did the Ride to the Wall on Saturday.  I was really nervous riding down that I wouldn't be able to gas up for the trip back North.  I needn't have worries as the big Shell station on the A38 near the Arboretum had bigger queues for the pish stones than the pumps.  Arrived home a trifle damp!

It is Carole Nash Ted.  I have 2 policies with them. £66 and £70 (for a Harley Sportster).

Went with CN this morning after blitzing CtM. Got it for 66 of your english pounds.  That was based on 2 years NCB and not on a classic policy.  I was going with Express yesterday for £72 but they do not man the phones on a Sunday.  That'll do!

We both went to St Helens Rugby League Club stadium for our first poke last Sunday. Never felt a thing as it was administered by a rather attractive female firefighter.  I've not missed a beat but the wife is still a bit off colour even today.  Hope she feels better soon as the sink is full and I had to find a paper plate for my toast this morning.

M.I.L. lives in Somerset so I attended a beer festival with my B.I.L. who moved there and had turned native.  After 2 pints of some cider stuff he lost feeling in his face.  He kept prodding is cheeks saying his face and lips were numb.  Me, on the other hand being a sensible northerner enjoyed a gallon or so of "Flat Cap" by Bank Top Brewery in Bolton.  Very civilised.  De-lish.

Been there!  I had to stick my mitt into the flames to turn off the fuel when the carb spit back and burned through the old fabric covered petrol pipe.  This happened during an attempted bump start.  Had to do a full rewire due to the damage.  Luckily my neighbour was watering his garden with a hosepipe.  I was lucky not to go up with it.  Shat myself!

When I have to empty my BSA tank, I remove the Ewarts tap and store it in a little plastic pot full of petrol and that keeps the cork seal in perfect nick. On one occasion though I thought I had enough in the tank and it dried out and the plunger bit of the tap would actually rattle about so I dunked it in boiling water for a few seconds and the problem was solved.  The only bit I dont like about the Ewarts is the very short pipe attachment.

Happens to me too.  I thought it was just me!  I use the hook side of the velcro fastening on my gloves to scratch it.  Ecstacy.  I also get an itch on my collarbone and my jacket is to tight to get at it.

I am encouraged by these replies.  The first 10 years of my working life was a Marine  Engineer followed by 35 years in engineering management where nothing phased me, although I once explained to someone who suggested that I might be quite clever, that mechanical/electrical issues can usually be overcome as long as you know someone who can help. (Contractors etc.).  The hardest part of the job was dealing with grown men who acted like children.  Anyway, I digress.  As I said nothing phased me and I was full of confidence in my abilities but having invested £6.5k (I don't know how you are fixed, but for me this is significant) of my pension into something that I have always wanted (750K7), asking a question that others may regard as basic gives reassurance.  Anything is easy once you have done it. Love the forum by the way.

Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain. Oh the scars....

Virgins In Bed Give You Odd Reactions - this was what was beaten into me during my Merchant Navy Cadetship.

Sorry, just enjoying reading through some older posts.

I have 4 seperate policies as it works out cheaper to do it that way.  My CB750 cost me £78 with zero no claims and is my most expensive policy. 2 others (Harley Sportster and ST1100) are low 70's and my BSA is 60 odd.  All fully comp.  I'm 61.  With the Beezer and CB being 'eff all tax, it's a relatively inexpensive hobby. It's great being an old fart!

Sorry, I don't have any technical input to offer but I am enjoying this thread (in a perverse sort of way!). I really hope there is a successful conclusion to PJM47's issue.  It gives me the confidence should I encounter a serious issue that I can't resolve, that there is help out there. I'll continue to watch from the sidelines.
