Sorted my carb balance today. Not perfect but pleased with result. 👍

CB350/400 / 400f downpipes
« on: June 05, 2018, 03:05:09 PM »
I saw a new CB650F the other day and had a good look at the downpipes on it. They are obviously designed to look like the old 400 Four pipes.
Without a chance to take basic measurements I was wondering if anybody had looked into the possibility of modifying a set of these to fit the 400?
With the problems with aftermarket sets and the dire shortage of originals is it worth the cost of doing this?

CB350/400 / Carb question
« on: March 13, 2018, 12:01:36 AM »
I'm about to put my carbs back together after rebuild. There are 2 small parts, spectacle shape in thin sheet metal that sit between the carbs. They're listed as part of the assemblies 95 Holder set A and 96 Holder set B.
Mine are broken, cracked through in the thin bit in the middle. They are thin and flexible and don't seem to do anything. The carb operation seems perfectly ok without them.
I can make a new pair, but do I actually need them?

Misc / Open / Cyprus Classic Motorcycle Museum
« on: February 22, 2018, 01:16:15 PM »
On holiday in Cyprus I visited this bike museum in Nicosia. It took 2 attempts to get in, it didn't open as published first time!
I managed to contact the owner and confirmed when he would be there for a second go. 😊

The collection is about 150 bikes with around 100 on display at any one time. It's mostly old brit bikes with a few other makes on display. There were 2 Hondas, a CB500 and a TL250. Well worth a look if you're out there.

CB350/400 / Alternative footpegs
« on: December 20, 2017, 11:50:50 PM »
The standard 400/4 footpegs are a bit on the chunky size for my cafe style rebuild.
Can anybody recommend an alternative footpeg that will fit the original Honda
mountings? I'm looking for a modern style aluminium peg without going for rearsets. (Too old and creaky for that!)

CB350/400 / Braided brake lines
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:29:34 PM »
I bought a set of braided hoses for the front brake but the bottom hose is much longer than the standard one.

It's long enough to go all the way to the caliper without using the metal brake line. Is that ok as long as it's secured away from the wheel?

If it is, I've got a brand new repro metal brake line going spare!

CB350/400 / DSS replica downpipes
« on: October 28, 2014, 07:08:56 PM »
I've been buying parts as I've been going along with my rebuild. My plan was to buy a set of DSS replica downpipes as one of the last items. I noticed recently that they aren't listed on their website anymore. Initially thought that they'd be listed again when re-stocked so I've been keeping an eye on the website, but no luck.
I emailed DSS today to find out what the story is. Apparently they've had problems with sets not fitting so they had a new batch made and had the same problem.
Result is - replica downpipes withdrawn from sale until DSS are happy with the fit.  :(

CB350/400 / Neutral switch wire
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:44:36 PM »
Working on the engine yesterday I broke the wire that connects to the neutral switch. The original wires are brittle and need changing.

The problem I have is seeing how the wire fixes to the switch. There's a small metal post that sticks out with a small spring on it, but no obvious ring connector or spade.

Can anybody help please?

CB350/400 / Stafford Classic Bike Show
« on: September 16, 2013, 09:05:05 PM »
I'm starting to get stuck into my 400/4 project now, having done a lot of research on parts suppliers and what's needed.

Is the Stafford Classic Bike Show in October likely to have much in the way of 400/4 bits? A trip down from Scotland is a long way to travel if a wasted journey.
I'm looking for cafe racer parts as well.

Cheers, Gareth

Hi.  A Taffy living in Scotland where all the best roads are.  8)

Riding a Street Triple when I can.

Just bought a dismantled 400/4 which is nearly all there but has been garage stored for at least 10 years.

It needs a lot of work, but I will get it on the road eventually. I'm treating it as a long term project. I'm thinking Cafe racer at the moment. I will need advice from you guys at some point I'm sure.
