Other Bikes / Disc rotor paint?

Does anybody know what paint is used for the disc rotor centers on the ST1100? Is it silver or aluminium? Is it a satin or 'flat' finish? Any suggestions as to what can be used?

Picture is just example of discs I am referring to.

What is the best oil to use with the engines as they have an integral gearbox and clutch?

Is it safe/good to use semi synthetic 10/40W oils that are specifically designed for car engines or do you really need to use 'motorcycle' specific oils or stick with a good old 20/50W?

Not looking for expensive/exotic oils just a good one for general use but there seems to many arguments about not using 'car' engine specific oils as the gearbox 'tears' it apart and possibly causing clutch slip, or is all this just marketing hype to get us to pay more for the same oil?

Other Bikes / Cleaning crank cases

I have the engine out of my Z900A4 whilst I am doing the restoration on the bike. Top end is off for guides, seals etc and as a result the barrels, head and cam cover have all been vapor blasted. Look a bit too dull and mat, but much cleaner than before.

However, the bottom end is fine and I am not going to split the cases just to have them cleaned. The A4's do not have painted cases, just natural alloy finish and whilst I have been over them with a small wire brush in a Dremel the cases still look very 'dirty' when compared to the top end as the finish is like a fine orange peel and as a result the dirt and grime trapped in the pockets does not get removed.

Any suggestions of how the clean the cases on the bench? Are there any chemical cleaners that can be used locally that can do the job or are there any solutions or processes that any member has used successfully?

Apart from London and Brighton are there any other electroplates in the East Sussex/Kent area that members have used or would recommend to undertake Bright Zinc, Black Zinc and Chrome plating?

Other Bikes / Refurbishing Calipers

I am in the process of restoring a Kawasaki Z900A4. Both calipers need re-painting and on stripping I find that both have hardened brake fluid in the seal groove and also in the machined step where the dust seal securing ring sits at the front edge.

What is the best way to clean and remove these deposits? Is it safe to have them vapor cleaned?

Has anybody used parts from cruzinimage_uk and in particular their piston rings?

They are a fraction of the cost of UK purchased ones but are they any good and will they last more that a few miles?

Similarly, are the brake hose and carb kits they supply good? Again they are much cheaper than UK sourced items? Yes there will be 20% VAT to pay and a courier collection charge but they will still be cheaper.

Do we know if they are made in Japan or simply sourced from the Far East. Having said that do we know where UK bought parts are sourced/made unless we use Gen Honda parts which no doubt are also made in the Far East, but hopefully with better quality control?

Did they produce separate US and UK/European Owners Manuals or just the US based one to cover all territories, 323411, B 4000612, as it would seem that the handlebar switches and the lack of a pilot light are the only operational differences?

Looking to purchase a blue 750K2 and would appreciate members advice on what is the current price ranges are?

Ideally looking for a UK model that is in good original condition or has been well restored with original sound std exhaust. Failing that one that does not require complete major engine and cycle restoration.

What would you expect to pay for bikes that fall into those categories and how would the prices be reflected if they were an US import?

If anybody has one that they are looking to sell or know where there are any for sale perhaps you can PM me.

Hi

New member to the forum.

Currently own: 38 Rudge, 69 Triumph TR6 and 70 T120, 63 BSA RGS, 99 ST1100 and 93 Triumph Sprint.

Had a new Blue CB 750K2 in 73 and looking to find another one now.

Current member of the  VMCC, Rudge and local BSA clubs
