Roy, did you manage to speak with Mike Newman in order to progress your work?
Chrome looks great. The plater I use has asked me not to reveal his details as he does bike chrome as a hobby from his main bulk order work.
I look forward to the next instalment.

CB500/550 / Re: Whick magnetic sump plug...

I bought one from M&P for the CB250RSA, it didn't fit, incorrect pitch and would have stripped the thread in the sump! When I called M&P all I got was 'oh, you are the first person to have had that problem', really? Like a lot of M&P items advertised as 'fitting your bike' BEWARE! The same applies to a lot of parts sellers on ebay, what they sell is generic and they use the customer as the guinea pig to test parts for them on bikes they have never tested the parts on themselves!

Welcome to the forum Clint. Have a look a the Bike EXIF website for some CB750 cafe racer / bobber ideas, plenty on there. Good luck finding suitable machine, D&K are probably a good starting point.

Welcome to the forum Kenneth. Hopefully your bike will be finished before the summer comes and goes.

Dave, was that the great hailstorm of Melton Mowbray a few years ago? I was driving to the railway test track at the time and the sky went black, next thing my car was on marbles of ice and it was like driving in thick fog!
When I got to the car park we shared with hundreds of brand new stored cars every one of them was full of dents, windscreens cracked and door mirrors hanging off. The insurance company set up a workshop next to our train shed and refinished every car over a period of a couple of months. I wonder though if as a customer buying one of these cars from a dealer if they were told of the damage suffered by their new car? Five of the cars in our works car park were actually written off, one being a 3 year old Jaguar!

Lobo, the Haynes Manual I have gives a generic torque figure for 6mm threads of 7-9lbs. I played safe and went to 8lb and a couple stripped (now helicoiled due to lack of any metal around the damaged thread). But going on what Nigel mentioned in his earlier post it could have been caused by me adding copperslip to the thread coupled with the wrench calibration being out and likely thread damage caused by previous P/O's.
Strangely the 6mm threads on the CB250RSA are also torque set at 8lb none have stripped!

I'm in the Middlesex branch Steve. I live just up the road from where they hold their social meets.
I've had my two theory lessons and went on my first social ride today, great bunch of people, glad I joined.
I need to book some observed rides now. Plan is to pass the test so I can join Blood Bikes as a volunteer. Only problem now is I'm currently undergoing training to be a tour guide in the Uxbridge RAF WW11 Operations Bunker.
And I thought retirement would involve winding down!

Looks like a nice sunny day where you are? Good to blow the winter cobwebs away. Shame about the circlip going AWOL, did you have the washer fitted between the circlip and the gear pedal?
It's been a great sunny day here as well, I'm just back from a 170mile ride out with the local institute of advanced motorcyclists. I've just joined them, a really great bunch.
That Hawk looks nice, imo they look so much better than a Superdream that followed it.

Thanks Bryan, I may take you up on the offer in May when we go to stay in a barn in Crasswell in Herefordshire 😊.
Thanks also Ka-ja.
I do always make a point of unwinding the wrenches after use to leave them on a zero setting as told in my school days leaving them 'set' weakens the spring and results in false readings. I don't know if true but I've always done it.

Tell me more Bryan about the 'spring balance' check. My SP torque wrenches are 3/8“ and 1/2“. The 3/8 range starts at 5lb but when I've set it to 8lb for a 6mm thread it stripped.
We had a torque wrench calibration station at work and I used to walk past it thinking I would bring my wrenches in from home to test them before I retired, of course I kept forgetting and now I've retired!

Great explanation Nigel.
Yes, the K series was known as 'ladder construction' I believe. I remember Suzuki made a big thing about it a few years ago with the GSXR engine even though most motorcycle engines are built using this method!
I've just bought a new Sealey 1/4 torque wrench as I think my SP one is out of calibration after 25 years!

There's a company who advertise sometimes in CB based in Hull called Rapier (01482 212690) who advertise dent removal. You could give them a ring? I've never used them.
