That looks tidy, your Dad should have fun with that, it was the Fireblade of its day....... The flywheel cover looks like the saucepan I cook my porridge in every morning! We'll done for visiting and staying in Croydon, my birthplace and home of the Eagles (but let's not bring football into this!). I had a blue Captain back in the late 70's, I sold it to a guy who converted it to trials trim.

Looking superb Roy. A great read of a rebuild, keep the commentary and photos coming. We'll done to Ash for coming to the rescue with the barrels to keep the build going. This is such a great forum with members helping each other out, great stuff 👏.

Welcome Dave. Nice looking Hawk. Be prepared to spend some ££££'s for a decent 750. Bikes get bigger and heavier the older you get!

I would keep the VFR, they are great all round bikes. Being fully faired they make great poor weather bikes and are easy to keep clean and respectable. I'm not sure what other bikes you have but I bet they would take a fair amount of effort to clean if you took them out on a dark and dirty day during the winter months. As an aside, I have a Jota, when I move it around it makes me puff as it has become so heavy all of a sudden, my VFR feels like a scooter in comparison!

I was following the auction on and off during the afternoon Ash. The bidding was very slow on a lot of bikes with quite a few not reaching reserve but being sold anyway. This could be an indication of prices starting to cool off in the classic car and bike scene?

Welcome to the forum Mike and for owning one of the best bikes Honda made in the 70's (IMHO! ). Let's see some photo your stead📸. I started on a knackered CB160, a CB125 was beyond my dreams!

I bought a s/h Myford Series 7 about 10 years ago, one of the best tool purchases I've ever made. Although Myford are no longer in business you can still buy any parts you need from various suppliers. I managed to buy a milling attachment a couple of years ago. There's even a tutorial series on YouTube of how to strip them down and rebuild them! I was lucky to have studied metalwork, woodwork, TD and motor engineering at my comprehensive school in Acton. I had the best and most inspirational teachers throughout my 5 years of secondary school. My TD teacher was ex-Rolls Royce and was involved in designing the Merlin engine (he always called us 'Chaps' at the start of a lesson) and my teacher for metalwork, woodwork and motor engineering designed the articulated seat rails for Concord. He also built a harpsichord from scratch in his lunch breaks!

Looking good Roy. I agree with you about vapour blasting, I think it's OK to do as long as you trust who's doing it and wash, wash and wash the cases when you get them back. I use I Cleenz Machinez, not cheap but they do a fantastic job and are bikers themselves.

Interesting read Ash, what a wreck to start from though! I need to read the full story on a laptop, a smart phone is difficult to read!
