They we not fitted as standard although a few people had aftermarket ones fitted usually with 'HONDA' logo's in white. I had one fitted on my first 400/4 in 1979 that I bought from Speedway of Acton (long since gone🙁). My mates called me an old man so I removed it after a while along with the huge barn door fairing, white fibreglass panniers and matching top box.

😁 Good play on words Nigel. 'The bike caught fire in the garage'. I'm surprised the house is still standing after that, it looks like an inferno took hold!

23 bids so far on the 'genuine barn find' ? As for 400/4 headers at £2k a piece, take a look at the new CB600. It has headers made to the same design as the 400/4 (sweeping and clearing the oil filter). The price for new headers if you happen to crunch them is £2500 and that's WITHOUT the cat or the silencer!!!! Some would say they are 'reassuringly expensive'.

Well done, another one on the road 👍. The Supertrap sounds great and especially on the overrun.

Well, when the parts and services bill reached £7k for the 400/4 I restored I gave up counting, why bother, it wasn't about the money but my love of the bike and restoring bikes is my hobby. I know I'd never get my money back but that's not what I'm in it for. I've only ever sold one bike I restored in 30 years and that was because the mortgage rate hit 15%! I like the barn find 400 Julie. Nice wheels and what looks like a Peter Furlong rear chain case. They were ugly but kept the crud off the chain (and also allowed the the owner to forget to check the chain tension!). I think that bike is going to make some large cash.

I'll let you know when it comes to sending the frame for re- plating. I was at the Kempton Park auto jumble last weekend and got talking to Maitland Racing as he's now building CR Rickman replica frames for Honda CB750's. He told me he uses a place near Southampton. There can't be too many platers around there so it's just a case of trawling the Web. He did warn me though to clean the welds around the brackets as this will cost a fortune in polishing time if left to the plater to do.

Welcome Steve. I bought my CR in 1994. I've still got it but it's in large lumps at the moment. I think I have now found a company who can re-nickel plate the frame. Good luck with your restoration and keep us posted with photos.
