Well done, another one on the road 👍. The Supertrap sounds great and especially on the overrun.

Well, when the parts and services bill reached £7k for the 400/4 I restored I gave up counting, why bother, it wasn't about the money but my love of the bike and restoring bikes is my hobby. I know I'd never get my money back but that's not what I'm in it for. I've only ever sold one bike I restored in 30 years and that was because the mortgage rate hit 15%!
I like the barn find 400 Julie. Nice wheels and what looks like a Peter Furlong rear chain case. They were ugly but kept the crud off the chain (and also allowed the the owner to forget to check the chain tension!). I think that bike is going to make some large cash.

Oh my 400/4 values appear to be on a steep rise judging by how much some people expect to get these days!

Thanks for posting. Worth a ride out I think. Good to make biking plans for the forthcoming hot summer 🌞.

I'll let you know when it comes to sending the frame for re- plating. I was at the Kempton Park auto jumble last weekend and got talking to Maitland Racing as he's now building CR Rickman replica frames for Honda CB750's. He told me he uses a place near Southampton. There can't be too many platers around there so it's just a case of trawling the Web. He did warn me though to clean the welds around the brackets as this will cost a fortune in polishing time if left to the plater to do.

Welcome Steve. I bought my CR in 1994. I've still got it but it's in large lumps at the moment. I think I have now found a company who can re-nickel plate the frame.
Good luck with your restoration and keep us posted with photos.

Apart from a transfer what is MV Augusta about it 🤔

That was a good real world review. A shame he couldn't find an open stretch of road to give it the beans. I like the colour and the overall view of the machine. It looks well finished.
Personally I would fit a louder exhaust though, it sounds mutted like all modern bikes.
It certainly appears better VFM then a Taiwan built but British badged Triumph even if the Trumpet is 20bhp more (and 250cc bigger). £5500 would get a nice classic Honda though! 🙄

Newman Cams in Kent can repair that. Ask for Mike Newman. I think I paid £27/lobe for my CB250RSA cam last year.

Other Bikes / Re: Cam Sprocket Timing Marks
« on: January 25, 2019, 12:30:22 PM »
Thanks Bryan. I'll give your suggestion a go. But yes, moving it one tooth takes it too far the other way. There is virtually no play, the marks either line up pre-tension or else they are a long way out by going another tooth on the sprocket.
When I refit the head and cam I'll turn the engine over a few times pre-tension and again post-tension to see the difference.
