CB500/550 / Re: 500 rear wheel position looks off center ?
« on: May 14, 2023, 11:58:21 AM »
I gave Max the dimensions of my 500 rear wheel spacers Ted when he was making me some in stainless, maybe heck and see what I said they were. Maybe the rear wheel is a 550 one which is different spacer wise. The brake plate is also different so that will show if it's a 550 rear wheel or a 500. They look the same visually.
If it is a 550 rear wheel it's well off central with the spacers. I bought a 500 brake plate due to the original being damaged. Is there a measurement I can take the will confirm if it's a 500 hub?

At the present time the original brake plate is still in place.

As a result of some new information it looks as if my bike has different sized rear spacers fitted compared to most 500's
My brake side spacer is 37.5 mm the left side is approx 37.9/38 on the left side.

Can't really think of an offset

But it should be an 18 inch rim,

Sent from my SM-A750FN using Tapatalk
I'll double check the rim is rusty I know one is 18" & one is 19" from memory.
I believe that there were different sized spacers on various 500' s
Update
It is 18" I've just checked the front is 19".

CB500/550 / 500 rear wheel position looks off center ?
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:27:59 PM »
Although there is only my frame on the bike stand with the rear wheel in place without the rear drive gear fitted or any brake shoes in the hub the rear wheel sits well off the center line with the two chain adjuster roughly at the same mark.

Am I right in thinking that there is more clearance between the wheel rim & the rear swing arm to allow for the drive chain?

The line from the center of the tyre tread is to the right of the center line of the top of the frame where the mudguard bolts. It looks to be a good half an inch to the right.  This difference is also reflected in the distance between the dampers & the tyre edges.

I'm a bit stumped the rear wheel is a 185 x19 that was on the bike I have fitted SS rear spacers that are the same length as the ones that came off.

Amended since original post rims are 185 x 18.

CB500/550 / Front wheel bearing retainer ring question?
« on: May 13, 2023, 12:48:47 PM »
Might seem an odd question but is the thread of the front hub bearing retainer on a 500 the same thread as the 400?

I am aware that the slots for the wheel bearing  removal tool are a different spacing on the 400 & 500's.

Have you tried it with just the rectifier plug disconnect & the flasher unit not connected?

After viewing the video plus looking at the cost I'm not going down the Motogadget road so it will be either check my existing loom thoroughly or if I replace it go for Deltariders option of fitting the
500 K2 version if I can find a new one.

As I am some time away from fitting a loom I will await the outcome of the thread on a members Dead Short cause.

TBH as cleverly as the name has been constructed for the joke it is not something I would post today due to its racist connotations.

Not trying to be PC just my view.

I am baffled as to how the fault has developed Rich - I for one will be very interested as to the cause of problem when you identify it. Iirc it was a new loom as well.🤔

So how does  the Motogadget connect into the existing loom or do you bin that then individually connect each device into the box of tricks or is it a Canbus system?

Is there a good video that shows the way?

Just fit a loom off a Cb550F Ted [...]
I would not. The better alternative of course is the loom the CB500K2 (ED, F, G) had: https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb500k2-general-export_model50441/harness-wire_32100374700/
BTW, it's the same the CB550K2 (A) had. You can have 3 fuses, knowing: 15A main, 7A head, 5A tail.

What is the advantage of using this loom over the one Ken mentions?
Part number appears to be 32100-374-700 not currently available at csml - DS show as discontinued.
