I think it's more about cost than  capability with multi national companies.

Share holder value is more important than local jobs etc.

Yes, possibly, but on the end bolt with the protrusions pointing down as previously suggested, there is no way to adjust the angle due to the protrusions touching the breather box.
It is indeed a strange one.

I am just going to leave my own as it is as I prefer the run of the cable.

I agree with your observation - the bolt end anti rotation tabs design does not seem to tally with a back bolt position.

The true meaning of time warp is only understood by old minds that have become warped due to the passage of time known as ageing.
Nostalgia gives us those rose tinted specs so we only see the good for fleeting moments. These time blips last fractions of a second as our memories travel at warp speed from present to past then back to the present.😎😎😎

The pressure that a float can exert on a needle & seat is probably quite low in terms of shutting off the fuel supply. 34 ft of water is around 15 psi. Petrol is lighter than water so imho if you auxiliary tank is a foot above the filler tank you are doubling the normal pressure.  4 psi is typical of car systems using carbs & pumps.

Buying fully restored can definely cost less but you loose the joy & angst of the build

They were well ahead of their time. A favourite trick used to be driving on an empty section of dual carriageway A38 at 70 mph then do a heads free emergency type stop down to 20 mph. They pulled up dead straight due to the steering geometry we called it inboard scrub radius.iirc.

Your asking price looks realistic to me I think condition speaks louder than some odd micro details known only by an Anorak.( No disrespect to Anoraks intended)

Don't take an out of scale financial  hit you do not deserve stick to your guns it's a nice bike we all know the cost of restoration is disproportionate to end value - a buyer will see it for what it is  a Pedigree even if it ain't KC Registered.

I would have thought normal silicone might work ok or blue Hylomar.
