Thanks for the information Al you're a star.
The lower photo is clearly brighter with a nice cut off - I will probably end up putting an LED bulb in the unit like I have with our older Jeep WJ. The seller on e-bay does a wide range of basically similar designed replacement bulbs with different fittings - they have a decent alloy heat sink with a cooling fan. Just need to be sure there is clearance at the back of the bowl. The cut off is good on dip with not too much scatter on main beam and they are nice and bright without being too blue in appearance. The wattage shown in the description is obviously wrong - something is lost in translation they are slightly lower than the Halogen bulbs they replaced. Before my next MoT I intend to have a word to see if I need to put the old bulbs in for the test. Luckily the bulbs on the old Jeep are really easy to install. The short wiring loom connectors/adapters fit perfectly. I'm pretty sure that Autofather make a suitable replacement Main/Dip type bulb.

That looks pretty neat were the indicator brackets included?

Do you have a link for the supplier please?

PS I like the mirrors as well not to mention those twin discs!

Mine is the same black gloss with white plastic colour inside.

I think its original looking at the damage to it & rust stains from the holding nuts.

The headlamp shell on my bike is cracked in 3 areas where screws fit - its plastic so not worth repairing. DS have shells at £23.94, my headlamp is original so basically that needs replacing (£34.80) plus the rim has been damaged the rim price alone on DS is £70.80!!.
I'm guessing the light beam is pretty poor by modern standards so an outlay of £129.54 plus postage I will end up with an expensive candle.

I'm not to worried about originality in this area so am wondering if there is a decent aftermarket lamp that fits between the mounting brackets that measure as a width of 7.25" / 1840mm or thereabouts?

I guess an alternative might be to alter the mounting brackets to accommodate a bigger headlamp possibly a decent LED unit that will also give lots of light output for fewer watts of electricity, has anyone here gone down this route ?

I agree PTFE tape is very good even on new bleed nipples - more so when caliper bodies are alloy rather than steel.

With steel you can tighten them enough that the taper on the nipple fully beds in - with aluminium you can't risk a thread strip much better to squash some plastic based replaceable tape.

My bike came with a pair of new shock absorbers already fitted - clearly not the original ones (old rusty ones came in a box)  they will do for now - there are odd mounting bolts fitted top and bottom with the top mounts being clearly having rubber bushes that are both different with extra rubber washers on one side - they look as though they have been a bit of a bodge fit.

I'm going to have to fit some new top bushes so they at least match. Does anyone recognise the brand as I can't see a makers stamp jumping out at me. I'm hoping I can get some aftermarket Poly Bushes or something similar so they fit correctlyRear Damper by Macabe Thiele, on Flickr if I cant identify them.

I have managed to avoid my bikes clutch binding over winter by....riding it every day.

Of course, this solution doesn't work for everyone ;)

As a warm dry day rider only that's not an option for me. So am wondering what causes the adhesion between the clutch plates?

When I had my Yamaha XJ900 the clutch always stuck after a few months of not being used. What causes the clutches to actually stick is it moisture in the engine oil?

When I asked my B-i-L what he did with his quite large motorcycle collection of bikes he almost never rides he told me he put a wedge  in the clutch lever to hold it in the disengaged position!

What is the view here on the sohc site as the best method of avoiding clutch sticking?

I have to own up to putting a racing seat on my Ariel Arrow back in 1966 - reason was simple - I never carried passengers, it was not a proper Golden Arrow but had a brand new Golden Arrow engine fitted when the crank coupling broke on me.  A new racing style rear seat was cheaper than a replacement seat from the local Ariel parts dealer.

The bike modification that has me puzzled is the folk that convert a perfectly good reasonably modern bike frame into a "Bobber" - I just do not see any reason for such a drastic change? I assume this modification is not able to be done with a mono shock rear set up.
