CB350/400 / Complete swing arm for sale
« on: November 12, 2021, 05:27:19 PM »
Hi all

Ok now dry fitted my original Dresda swing arm and with a bit of modifications got my caliper mount sorted even with a box section arm

Will need a couple of new parts but happy so far on how it has fitted

So as it’s just taking up space I have for sale a complete rear swing arm

The arm is in super condition and is already powder coated black

Will come complete with the following

Pivot bolt an nut
End dust caps
The arm itself
The inner pivot tube
Two wheel pulls that are in VGC with no rust
And most importantly the two wheel adjuster stops that are now as rare an hens teeth and just as expensive if you can find any

Going to chance my arm so asking for£70 plus £10 to post as the Dresda unit was not cheap

Idea for anybody building up a collection of parts

Any questions just pm me

Best wishes Al

« on: November 07, 2021, 04:00:23 PM »
Hi all

Am I correct in thinking that from 1975 F1 to 1977 F2 the swing arm is the same and interchangeable?

Many thanks in advance

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / Rear disc conversion
« on: October 11, 2021, 01:45:35 PM »
Hi all

As some of you know my rear drum has developed a crack that renders it either scrap or look to a possible repair.

Bike was never going to be standard / original, so now looking to see what is involved in conversion to a rear disc and thought I would do a thread about how I did the conversion unlike when I converted the front end to dual disc

First thing I needed to do was suss out a way of fitting a “disc carrier” that fits the standard hub to see what design was needed.

Spent some time yesterday modelling up a simple dummy disc carrier unit in 3d so I could then overnight print  and then dummy up the build on the bike just to see how it all fitted together and from first dry fit it looks good.

This is the 3d printed disc carrier in ABS.

And this is how it all fits together on the wheel and bike.

The final carrier itself will be machined from a solid aluminium billet and will be designed to lock the carrier in the internal bore so that it is solidly held in place to prevent sideway movement and other features such a extra bosses to lock it in place using some of the internal hub features to prevent possible rotation under braking (and also a oil seal like the sprocket side to prevent water entry to now exposed wheel bearing as the end spacer / boss you see on the dummy disc carrier will be a separate part the final disc carrier will revolve round this spacer)

But for now I am happy with the overall shape and size / distance of the disc from the swing arm and there is plenty of space to add a caliper hanger etc

The next stage will be to source a caliper and then design a caliper mount to suit my chosen unit to mount the caliper on the disc and use the original torque arm mount with a new torque arm arrangement

Again this will be modelled and printed so I can first test fit my design

Then the final stage will be how to convert my rear sets to operate a remote master cylinder

Once these three parts of the design are finalised I can then commit to the final parts in aluminium and then fit

Will update as thing go

Catch up soon

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / Rear drum
« on: October 09, 2021, 04:02:54 PM »
Hi all

Went to change my rear shoes today as brake has started to feel not right and found that on fitting the new shoes / brake plate there was a tight spot and on closer inspection the rear drum lining has a very small hairline crack and you can feel a slight bulge to it

So question to all is please

Either does anybody please have a spare good rear hub they were willing to sell or can I get the hub relined  somewhere in the uk?

Any advice most welcome

Many thanks in advance to all

Best wishes Al

« on: September 01, 2021, 09:03:31 PM »
Hi just checking my cases and found this?

Is it also a bearing combined with an oil seal?

And advise welcome

CB350/400 / Case bolts
« on: August 30, 2021, 06:52:15 PM »
Hi all

I have a question please

Has anybody replaced the M8 case bolts that clamp the main bearings together with head studs rather than using bolts

Just that when I was building my V8 rover it was highly recommend that as the engine was “tweaked”  I scrapped the head bolts and main bearing cap bolts  and replaced them with a stud and nut system  (ARP) as you get far more even clamping and is superiority to using a bolt system

Just that as my new engine will be a bit tweaked (460 cc /fast road cam plus other tweaks etc want to build a good bottom end    so make sense to go this way

Even on my RD, the area that clamps the crank in is as standard uses studs rather than using bolts

Any thoughts welcome

Best wishes Al

CB350/400 / Stand
« on: August 30, 2021, 10:47:24 AM »
Hi

Anybody want my original engine stand?

As now built one that both will allow you to mount the cases inverted for a build and then also hold a complete engine upright

Just need to cover post which will be around £7  due to weight

Better that sticking in the scrap metal skip as my be some use to someone
