Tricks & Tips / Basic bench carb balance
« on: December 12, 2018, 12:01:39 AM »
This is to bench set carbs that have been completely disassembled or adjustment altered wildly

First undo the main tick over screw out until there is no thread showing past the bracket and there is a gap between the end of the screw and lever on carb.

Pick a carb, needs to be the one with the lowest slide or the no adjuster if there is one.

Make sure that the slide on the carb you picked touches the base of the body, if not use the adjuster to make it touch.

Find the smallest drill bit you have, must not have a chewed up shank, 1/16 inch max and turn in the main tick over screw until the shank of the drill just fits under the flat side of the slide.

Using the drill like a feeler gauge set the other slides to the same height, using the individual adjusters.

You may need to undo the tick over screw to get the bike to start but this will give you a good basic setup.

This does not set the high tick over found on PD carbs these I try to stay away from as much as possible.

For those that havent read my comments in another post i decided to start a fresh one.
6 am last Saturday i was woken by some swine who wasnt there beating the hell out of my elbow and thumping my chest, by 7.30 my wife had me in a&e in Gloucester, by 9.30 i had had a nice ride in one of those big yellow and green taxis with noisy horns and bright lights to Bristol Universty Hosptal ccu (god bless nutsoid female paramedic drivers). Several hours later after 3 inconclusive eeg tests and two blood tests was transfered to a coronary ward to await echo tests and angiogram dye test with possible stent, unfortunately for me i have had no furthe pains which makes me non urgent and so still waiting in the early hours of Tuesday wide awake (slept too much during the day) .
Myself and my beautiful wife would like to thank all those who have sent good wishes and to assure you all that i aint giving in to this and fully intend to be back anoying you all by driving a truck thats in your way just as soon as the medics allow

The Black Bomber Board / Honda Manual
« on: November 23, 2017, 04:45:57 PM »
Whilst searching for something else I found a genuine Honda CB/CL workshop manual for the 450. It has 7 punch holes in the edge for a ring binder(that i don't have) so I think it is a genuine dealer copy.

If anybody wants it it can go cheap(make an offer) but postage may be a bit pricey due to weight

CB500/550 / Nice US CB550(if you ignore the seat)
« on: August 30, 2015, 01:21:08 PM »
Noticed this on flebay today, looks like a good project with little work as long as you throw the seat away (any 500 except K0 would fit)

« on: July 20, 2015, 08:03:30 AM »
Now the bike in this link has to be a real rare beast as I remember going to Mr Degens shop fairly regularly in the late 70's and we bought quite a bit of British plus Honda 750 stuff from him yet I dont remember seeing anything 500. Way too dear for me to consider but i hope it finda a good home.

« on: June 09, 2015, 09:56:38 AM »
Hi all I notice that a lot of people are saying that they can't post pictures as the file is too large. Having spent some time trying to do this i came across some instructions on the web and have modified them from US English plus tried to make it simpler(just like me) the instructions are posted below in an old style Word Document and Steve feel free to move this anywhere you feel appropriate mate

Tricks & Tips / Engine earthing point
« on: May 10, 2015, 01:16:37 AM »
Having found a NOS engine mount out for Julie i thought it would be a good idea to post a couple of pics on the board.

If you look closely at the large hole you will see on either side that there is no paint. This is to allow the metal of the engine and the ring terminal of the earth lead to make good contact with the bracket so you have a good earth point

So all you peeps who have your frame and everything painted/powdercoated take note and remove aforesaid coating in this area, also up where the coils mount and the small green lead fits

OK That season is again here, must be with the amount of booze I am trundling about, so I might as well be the first to wish all the members here a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year, in my case hopefully a better one than the last

Remember if you are at a party drinking lean against a wall as its less painful to slide down than fall over

CB500/550 / Reliable old Hondas
« on: October 30, 2014, 09:23:05 AM »
OK I am a bad owner! The 500 that is on the road(ish) has sat under a cover since it last came back from MOT (Sept 13) but the wind got the cover and shredded it so bought a canvas one off fleebay and thought OK whilst it is uncovered i will see what happens

(1) put in key and turn on

(2) astounded that idiot light lit up---not surprised that not enough for starter

(3) turn on petrol and chock

(4) at 3rd kick oil light goes out

(5) at 7th kick bursts into life and after about 1 min blipping settle to a decent tickover

Now just got to sort the LH indicator and get it tested again!!!

Have had relatively decent news on the boy as he has had a diagnosis, not the best being severe Crohns but not the worst possible. Might now get time to sort out all those bits i have promised to look out for you guys (and gals) Didn't help that for the past week i have been swapping hard drives and other numerous bits to try and get rid of malware all seems OK at present---crossing everything available and bashing shite out of the old wood desk!!!

All the best to you all

Regards

Bryan

« on: May 02, 2014, 08:34:58 AM »
Hi all, I know there are things i have supposed to copy and send out but due to 60+ hour weeks, my dearly beloved being unwell, the youngster(not so young now 17) having problems and various electric/electronic malfunctions a lot of things have gone by the board.

Firstly apologies to those i have disappointed

Secondly please bug me on blj@blj.org.uk and I will sort out whatever it is PROMISE!!!!

I have tried to keep answering as best i can over the past few months but life has had to take precedence, I also blame the imbibing of copious amounts of Guinness  and castletowns as a younger person.

All the best for the bank holiday (I'm working AGAIN!) and remember to keep the dirty side down

Bryan
