Misc / Open / Tax Exempt
« on: March 21, 2014, 06:58:29 AM »
Did any of you notice this in the budget speech:-

There's good news for classic car owners in the 2014 budget. From April 2014, the classic car exemption from VED will begin rolling from 40 years, with cars built before January 1974 eligible for a zero-rated tax disc. Then, from January 2015, the formerly fixed cut-off, will become a rolling one

I know a few of you have been hoping!!!

Hi all, i recently found an 82 CBX550F2c---yes i know it has one to many cams but they were one of the first with two and are "quirky" in the extreme---try getting the front wheel out without a degree in origami.

Anyway to the point, i wanted a RH sidepanel which as you might guess is only slightly rarer that hens teeth but i found a site in Australia that had the correct one of the 6 varients

www.motoretro.com.au

He was very reasonable on price and incredibly quick on delivery, I have asked and he does have some stuff for the 70's bikes but not all listed in the part number list, could be worth an email if there is something you are having difficulty finding

We all know that the SOHC 4 started in 1969, initially in the States, but who remembers that also in 1969 Man made his first step onto a different planet, also from the States.

Neil Armstong will be buried today in Cincinnati after passing away last Saturday in his 80's and the good old US of A seems to have totally ignored it.

I watched it on a grainy black and white TV and am still astounded by the engineering and adventure of the task

CB500/550 / 500 four build dates
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:10:33 PM »
Evening folks, over many years I have compiled a list of frame number along with build dates, usually from friendly US members and ebay sellers. This can be usefull in deciding wether its worth trying to get a "Historic" tax category so I hope the list comes out as a word attachment below.

DO BE WARY and read the red bits at the bottom.

If anybody has others to add please send them and I will add them in

CB750 / Parts book CB750 up to K4
« on: March 13, 2011, 01:21:47 PM »
Hi All, I have just finished scanning my early US parts book for the CB750 from the original CB750 up to the CB750K4. There are 167 pages in pdf format. Not all pages were scanned as sometimes the Number details for one picture take up two pages, also some pictures (carbs, exhaust) are on a folded page so two scans were required. Please be advised it is an over 35 yr old paper book so the pages have discolouring and marks, as to be expected from a used works book. An image of the frontispiece is shown so you know what it is.

It does show some of the individual carburettor "O" rings, with part numbers, along with the sizes for a lot of the other "O" rings, information not available from the newer microfiche(s).

Having spent hours standing at the scanner i feel disinclined to give the info away but will only ask

Misc / Open / Christmas

Might one be the first to wish all who read the stuff on here a Happy Christmas and a Merry New year (I prefer it that way round!)

Remember:--

Always lean on a wall at the new year do----it hurts far less when you hit the ground slowly after the legs stop working!!

CB500/550 / Oil pump leaks
« on: September 14, 2010, 03:43:24 PM »
I have in the past been able to supply "O" ring kits to cure the cover leak on the 500/550 oil pump.

Unfortunately my old supplier has changed hands and no longer stocks the "Slow Moving" parts and is not willing to order in quantities i can afford to buy to sell over 5 years!

However to help all out I have been doing some research and discovered that whilst Honda do not list the cover "O" ring as a separate part for the 500/550 the correct size is used on other bikes and so for those in need here are the part numbers and sizes:-

91305-426-003 oil pump cover      46x2
91302-377-000 suction and feed   15x2.5
91302-250-010 casing to block     47x3

Best wishes to all and hope that that helps

Tricks & Tips / Cam Chain Adjusting
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:38:46 PM »
OK there are many different methods in Honda manuals for adjusting the cam chain but here is a method i have used for 30+ years which works as long as the tensioner is operating as it should and the camchain still has useable life.

(1) Find a method of turning the crankshaft, this can be
    (a) Kickstart
    (b) spanner on nut on end of crank
    (c) rotating back wheel in gear

Or any other none destructive method you can find.

(2) Put pressure onto your turning method so that the engine is just about to turn but not quite turning.

(3) This is the difficult bit, Whilst holding that engine possition loosen the cam chain adjuster locking bolt/nut and re-tighten. That is the bolt/nut that actualy locks the tensioner not the one that stops the lock undoing!

If the chain is stilll noisy try again in a different position, if its still noisy either the adjuster is siezesd or at its limit and/or the camchain needs replacing.

Have fun.
