« on: April 06, 2009, 08:10:39 PM »
Just found this site on the internet while looking for copper cored HT cable, The Green Spark Plug Company, based in cheshire, they supply Plugs, HT cable, Spark plug caps, could be  useful, and the prices look reasonable. Maybe already known, but thought it was worth a mention.

Hello everyone, is it possible to renew the HT leads only on a CB 750, or any other SOHC, without having to renew the coils, mine are not in the best condition, but dont want to go to the expense of renewing coils as well if poss.
Regards ianmck.

A friend of mine who has a car engine reconditioning business took a look at the engine and finely honed the bores and found that they were quite worn and possibly ovalled, the outcome being is a re bore, new pistons and rings, and the head overhauled, including valve stem oil seals. but he could not explain the no smoke then smoking mystery.
Anyway thanks for the help, and keep fingers crossed that this will cure it. Will let you know.     Regards ianmck.

CB750 / Smokey 750

Any ideas, thoughts on my smokey 750. Bought Nov 08, been laid up up for quite a long time after having been imported from America, it started and ran quite well, sounded pretty good and no smoke. Ran it up at home , and had a couple of small runs on it, before starting to tidy it up, once again, ran quite well, and no smoke, did a few jobs on it, and didnt run it for a few weeks, started it up in the garage, and as it warmed up I noticed some blue smoke from the exhausts, allfour were smoking, but cyls 3 & 4 were quite bad. Changed oil and filter, cleaned pick up gauze, re filled with oil, still the same, put a mix of redex and eng flush into bores, left to soak 24 hrs, drained oil cleaned filter,re filled with fresh oil, still the same. read all the posts about blue smoke, removed engine to check valve seals and rings, all looks to be fine , engine is almost spotless inside, and no sign of any undue wear and tear, HELP with any ideas, suggestions as to any other possible causes, would be very welcome.  Ive thought of oil press release valve stuck/faulty, blocked oilways, cant think of anything else, I am distraught,
Regards ianmck.

CB350/400 / Spark Advancer
« on: December 28, 2008, 08:19:56 PM »
merry christmas and happy new year to all,
Can anyone help please, I have romoved faulty electronic ign from my 400/4, got new back plate set from DS, came to fit it yesterday, and found cam was missing off the spark advancer, I assume it must have been removed by PO, when elec ign was fitted, it seems that they are no longer available, either from DS, or CMNSL, so for the moment I'm Stumped, has anyone got a spare to sell, or know of anywhere else to try and get one ?
            Regards ianmck

If you decide on an electronic ignition replacement I recommend the Dyna S system, I  got mine from the US for  60 odd quid and it all fits behind the  points cover.

Cheers

Dave

cheers Dave, thanks for your advice, not sure what to do as yet, may re-fit points and condensor and back plate, due to cost, cos i'm trying to save some cash for cb 750 ?  cheers Ian

More likely to be the pirahna playing up than the coil mate, have you got the bits to re-convert to points?

Hello bryanj, had a look at your reply a little earlier, got me thinking, so just did some checks:- wiring continuity etc, all OK, then swapped LT wiring (from pirhana) from 1 & 4 coil to 3 & 4 coil, now have good spark at 2 & 3 plugs and non on 1 & 4 plugs, so it looks like you might be right, fault possibly in ign system. So now have to decide wether to go back to points, or new ign system. Ho Hum.
Thank you for your help, and thanks for replying to my message, I'll let you know how I get on.
Regards ianmck

« on: November 10, 2008, 04:32:51 PM »
Hello all, just registered today, my 77 400/4 has got a misfire, no spark to no's 2 and 3 cyls, suspect coil failure, it has got Pirhana electronic ign, has anyone got a spare coil that they would be willing to sell please ? I am in the North west area, and could pick up locally. Would like to hear from anyone in the area who has a scimillar bike.
Regards to all Ianmck
