just a quick note to show my appreciation to all here,
the peeps that spend time and effort running the Forum,
and all that have helped,and guided me in the past (and future)

I have the 4 by 4 exhausts,
regular riding keeps the inside dry and clear,
but the chrome is going,
I usually remove them annually,clean and polish all over with Autosol,using a nylon toothbrush to clean/polish the nooks and crannies,
but in both inner pipes I am getting rust near the mounting brackets,
so,I need advice how to stop it going further,
and maybe preventing completely !!
your help is needed !!

when I first purchase my CB500/4,it was in Ford Purple/lilac. ( blame 70's scene) !! I have since had painted gloss black,tank and side panels, BUT ?? what were the original colours  and does anyone know a modern colour match ?? thanks John

I have a CB500-4,
I have had it since about 1977,its an M plate,
I have fitted Boyer ignition,its proved very good ,and reliable,
but , some thing that has happened twice in the past 25yrs is worth mentioning,
the general instalation is easy,
but over time,check the connection of the 2 wires on the sensor plate,
I have found the small screws that are the connections for the sensor coils becomes loose,giving poor starting and slow speed running,
hopefully I have cured my issues using lock washers,
will let you know over the next 25 yrs

hi all,
forgive me,but this is pick your expertise time,
I have a standard single disc setup,
I would like to go to twin discs,
can you advise me on the pitfalls,
I guess I shall need a new m/cylinder,caliper,caliper mount,2 bolts,disc,6 extra long disc bolts,hoses,flexi and pipe,
what about new rh fork leg? speedo drive?
are these available,source of parts?

hi all, as you can see from my profile pic,I have a well used 500, for the past 6-8yrs I have used Avon Roadrider 90/90 x 19 f,and 100/90 x 18 rear, as both need changing, I am going for the new Dunlop Streetsmart 3.25 x 19 F,and 4.00 x18 R, both sets run at 29psi F,and 36 psi R, the Avons make the bike feel light and nimble,like a little 250,gives me confidence to touch the footrest and stand,hopefully the new Dunlops will be as good,and even better,my rear is lasting up to 3k miles,the front about 8k,  what tyres do you prefer?? this is aimed mainly at the owners that ride the bike,rather than just polish and show them, all comments welcome John

I recently posted about the Calne bike day,
in about 5,000 bikes,only 2 SOHC Hondas,and 1 was mine,
there is a bike day at Brackley ,Northhampton,on the 18th august,
also at Sparkford ,near Yeovil,home of the Haynes museum,
do any of you guys use your bikes?
want to meet informally,
do you want more info?
I live near welsh border,about 80miles from Calne,and Brackley,and 100 from Yeovil.
other venues are about,
what do you think?
is it worth posting a few events??

I have recently been forgetting to add "lead substitute" to the fuel,
and have got what appears to be sticky valve !!!
as the motor get warm/hot,after cruising around 6K rpm for several miles ,the engine runs rough,noisy tappets,and feels like its on 3 only,
spitting in the carb,and spitting in exhaust.I still have 4 - 4 pipes,
after checking,setting tappets at 3th inlet/4th exhaust,and re-using Morris lead substitute again,the bike runs well again,
is it common?
if so,I hope you take notice,and use an additive as well,

PS,I should say I have a '74 CB500/4. and the handbook does say it needs "some" lead in fuel

hi,I am John from the west midlands,only 12miles from the welsh border and all those smooth great roads,
I have owned the CB500-4 since about 1977,it is M plate and has just over 50K mls on it,
99% standard,appart from H4 headlight,Boyer ignition,and great Avon tyres.
