Good luck with the 550, nice to see another on the road as there are not many left in the UK judging by how many others I have seen on the road in the last few months (0)!
I used to have a 400/4 back in the late 70's and always wanted a 550 but they seemed to be like rocking horse shit.

my bikes runs like a piece of junk if the rain is on the leads, when I bend them they are cracked etc letting in water, can't I just coat/spray them with something to keep the water out?

You are right and I have read this thread but on some others people are putting 35 in the front and 40 in the rear depending on the manufacturer!(without pillion) if I have a pillion I will put the 'handbook' 38 in the rear.

There seems so much conflicting information on pressures, I am running 26 front and 26 rear as per my manual. Have not really looked at the tyres before only that they have plenty of tread depth and sidewalls are in good nick. I have 100/90 - 19 on front and 3.50S18- 56S on the rear, is this ok? The bike handles well and I have no discernible problem. Bike is 76 550 K3.

Sorted! it was just simple adjustment, there was more play in the chain than I thought but I still can't understand why it touched nothing when I moved it up and down as far as it would go.

I did that the other day and lubed the chain at the same time but didn't notice any but will have a more detailed look.

I have noticed a slight 'slop' noise that sounds like chain when on light throttle (eg: roundabout in 3rd) it seems to be in unison with the rotation of the drive chain but disappears under more load but when I check the chain and move it up and down as far as it will go it touches nothing.
Any ideas?

There is a firm near me in a tiny village who do the silvering process, not as expensive as chroming but you really struggle to see the difference, all the bikers round here use them. I am picking up my 550 grab rail tomorrow as, for some reason, it was black instead of chrome..£30 for 4 day turnaround. I am lucky, these guys are 5 miles down the road and Dave Silvers are only 25 miles away!

what exactly does this bit do? when it's in my airbox the cleaner hole does not line up with the intake for the carbs, but when it's not there they align perfectly.
