Me and my Endoscopes have been in some very dark, tight places over the years but I have never thought about inspecting the internals of an engine with it !!! What an excellent idea. The other day when I wanted to get the swing arm bushes out after I had cut them with the hacksaw blade, I used an instrument called an Osteotome, used regularly in Orthopaedic surgery, fitted perfectly down the side of the bush to help remove it. All basic woodwork instruments really but perfect on bikes too. (These were old knackered osteotomes I hasten to add, didn't take them from the kit in the Operating theatre

Well done that girl, I would probably have given him a slap as well . Personally I can't understand why men make assumptions, makes them look really silly.
Back to bikes. Soaked swing arm bushes in oil overnight as suggested by Hairygit, just fitted them, lovely, all nice and shiney and new. There was a little bit of wear on the old ones but I don't know enough to say if it would be considered normal or not, anyway, I'm pleased I changed them 7819

CB350/400 / Re: 400/4 swing arm bushes« on: November 09, 2014, 09:45:29 AM »All I mentioned was a bit of rubber tube and a good potential source for it for Gawds sake! When I was a kid and the local chemists twigged that the Potassium Nitrate I used to buy from them was not 'For my dad's garden, miss', a friendly nurse stepped in and got me Potassium Permanganate instead, as the hospital used it for treating old bod's feet or something. The 'flowers of sulphur' and charcoal were readily available, so no worries there. Problem was that the Pot. Permanganate made an unholy purple mess everywhere so I was quickly banned from using that too Yes Ash, the banter on here is lightweight up against what I have had to deal with face to face over the years as a Nurse. I also have very close connections with the Motor Trade and over the past 30 odd years have had to deal with Men on a very regular basis, take it from me absolutly nothing can shock or upset me and if anything I am usually the instigator !!!. 7821

I was showing it to some of my staff at work last night, they understand fully mens fetishes about rubber, it's no different to us girls having fetishes about Firemen or farmers in wellie boots, it's the rubber that does it for us too (I think Bitsa has led a sheltered life !!!) 7824

Thanks Ash. Im sure the original were plastic but sometime in the past the bike has been completley stripped as the frame has been powder coated. I assume the brass one's were put in as part of the rebuild, I only changed them again because I have the back end out to do the chain and sprocket.

CB350/400 / Re: 400/4 swing arm bushes« on: November 08, 2014, 10:54:47 AM »
No, I'm not sure if there was really a problem with them Trig. There may have been the slightest bit of play when I wiggled the back wheel, but it also may have been my imagination !!!. Also though, the back end feels very slightly unstable and a bit skippy and wobbly when riding. It may be because i'm comparing the back end with my CBR's. Anyway, as I'm going to change the chain and sprocket it just made sense to me to to take the whole back end apart and do the bushes at the same time. Just got them out, no major problems removing them, except 1 broken nail and some chipped nail varnish.

I had problem with DVLA recently. Did a change of address on my Freelander. I purchased it new, 2 years ago, so I'm the only one in the log book. By the time the Doc came back from Swansea it said it had had 7 previous owners !!!. Contacted DVLA and they said 'yes' definitely 7 owners, so I asked them to provide me with the other 6 owners names, No, they couldn't do this until I did a previous owner information request. So I requested the info, never did get a reply but 10 days ago the Log book turned up with the new address, showing me as the only owner !!!. There was a little letter of apology with the Doc saying it had been a data processing error !!!. Morons

Hi Experts.
I'm about to try and get the swinging arm bushes out, they look like brass and I'm replacing them with new brass one's. I'm sure I read on here somewhere the best way to get the old one's out is to cut them with a hacksaw. Before I start is there anything I need to be careful of or look out for?. Ta Julie |
