Title: noisy clutch

Hi, i'm new around here and new to the SOHC engine,Just bought a 1975 cb750 with a tracy body and it seems to have a noisy clutch ,especialy when cold . Just wondering if this is normal .any info would be alot of help. thanks

Does the noise go away when the clutch is pulled in?, if so I think this is fairly normal.

My F1 was noisy so I put a clutch from an F2 in and it got worse.

Check for un-even plate wear and cable tension.

As John said, if the noise goes with the clutch in, this is 'normal', it is the clutch basket that rattles. If the noise stays constant it is probably the cam chain noise, which is also 'normal'. Welcome to the worls of noisy old Hondas!!
Btw, what is a Tracy Body?

I think those Tracy kits look gorgeous - the only one I've ever seen was on a 550.

The clutch will rattle if the carbs are out of synch as each cylinder \"fights\" against the others each revolution.  Make sure you do all the other normal tune up things before the carb synch.

I am responding only because I have fixed this very problem.

If the noise you speak of is this clutch.

I removed the clutch and carefully inspected the pressure plates and found that they were installed rather random as far as which way. When the plates are made they are stamped which make a very slight angled edge on the disc.  I arranged all of these edge angles to be going the same direction and installed the clutch and no more clutch noise. The other source for noise from the clutch basket is one that is worn, not necessarily bad but worn.

Just some ideas.
