CB750 / Re: Correct Front Wheel Hub K0
« on: October 04, 2019, 03:12:03 PM »
Both our UK CB750/4 K2's have a measurement of 65mm, the same as yours. Sorry, terrible pic 🙄. But you are not actually measuring the 'overall width' of the hub the way you are doing it. The overall width is actually 110mm measured across the flanges. Service bulletin #26 relates to the brake disc mounting bolts, not the hub itself.

I think the pictures makes the rust look worst than it is, but is diesel ok to use or should I be using other chemicals?  :-\
Oh yes, photos do make rust look pretty horrific, I forgot about that 😀 If you think they are salvageble, a good soak in diesel and a scrub with a brush will be fine. Don't wash the diesel off after cleaning as it will leave a nice film of oil as protection. Then just bag up.

Cheers Julie, I shall give it a go and see what happens.  ;D
Always worth trying to save parts. You will know if they are beyond saving if you see any obvious damage or pitting in the metal after cleaning.

I have seen a lot, lot worse but unless they are very rare, totally unobtainable parts, which they aren't, I wouldn't even bother. Surface / flash rust is ok to clean up but not rust that deep, the parts won't function correctly by the time you chisel off the rust.

Mmmm, if it's knocking, its letting you know it's time, if not overdue, for a new chain. It will only get worse and may cause damage internally. But, I quite understand what you're saying, if you're not mechanically minded it will seem a daunting task.

I am trying to become mechanically minded, I am thinking of rebuilding the 400/4 engine, I have been reading your thread. Perhaps I real give the 550 a go if successful with the 400. ;D
Sounds like an excellent idea 👍👍👍

Full engine strip. Have you fully serviced the bike and synced the carbs to see if the noise lessens?

The chap posted some other pics as well, not sure if this will help. Same year but younger brother on the little bike.

I'm guessing an Import. The CB550/4 F2's were a good seller so can't imagine one sitting around for that many years (not impossible but unlikely) If it were a CB550/4 K3, I could understand it being a sticker.
Is the date of UK registration different than the date of manufacturer on the log book?
