Title: Price of engines
Post by: Seamus on June 15, 2012, 08:28:05 AM
Been watching a K2engine on Ebay and am amazed at the bidding so far.  :o

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CB750-SOHC-Engine-chop-chopper-bobber-/230805060232?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item35bd0dba88

I did bid for a while, but this is a bit rich for me. Especially as it does not turn over, so anything could be wrong. Are these now that sought after?

I do have a feeeling that the price is being artificially inflated as there is still a day and a half to go.

Am I still living on the past with regard to prices?

The K2 and under engines are worth a little more than the K3 onwards (the last K4 engine on ebay had a 'buy it now' price of £300.
I will agree that the present engine is being 'geeed' along

Hi Guys,
Over here I have seen engines go for 350 to 800 euros depending on seized or not.My k4 cost me 500euro from a guy in Paris who had 4 or 5 from USA with low mileage. He just said pick one.Had a warehouse full of CB450s all for sale.

When you look at the prices of engine spares on the bay I think £300 odd for a complete motor isn't bad. Even if seized hopefully you will be getting decent cases / gears / head etc etc.

I bought a motor not too long ago for £300 but that was a runner

I agree this engine has shot up in price  quickly , there is usually a frenzi in the last minute, trouble is lots of sellers are shill bidding to get maximum price, saying that you get alot for your money,  it is all there and been k2 will fetch slightly more than later ones
I think its worth £400 max , if you have a k2 rolling chassis and no engine then its a must have
We should be pleased that the value of our sohc bikes and spares is increasing as any of us with many parts and bikes will get a return on our investment , better than what banks will give

Whilst I don't doubt there may be some unscrupulous individuals who get chums to bid up prices I have to say I am a bit 'old fashioned' when using the bay and I often ( but not always ) bid early with my max amount as I can't be bothered with all this last second sniping nonsense. ( some people have software to do the final bidding so it will probably only end in tears ) Only takes 2 people to think like me and bam! up goes the price pretty damn quick! ( thats the downside of doing it and why the bay advise you to do it! )

It's quite depressing how people over-inflate these things.  I got into these bikes because they were a very cheap and affordable classic.  It looks like times are moving on.

Hi Brian,  it must have been a few years ago, I tried to haggle  a K4 from £300 to £200 and I would pick it up at the end of an ebay auction...he said he could get more if he broke it up?

Finally went for £400, but still an unknown quantity as it does not turn over. Possible ring seizure as it has been standing or worse (broken camchain)

Still if that is the going rate...

I was originally looking for a set of early (K1 or 2) barrels and pistons. I have a set of barrels, but they probably need reboring etc, so an engine at the right money would have been good.
Do you have anything like that?

cheers

Hi

I have an engine in bits, well in bits the barrels are off and of course head the clutch is missing along with all the auxiliaries  and cases (generator/gear change etc) the engine number is CB750GE1007221 if any one knows whats that is out of
Ive never ran the engine and was in bits when a bought a job lot of SOHC parts so can say if the crank etc is ok . if you want it make me an offer, it will need picking up from Hull East Yorks
I will be putting this and another casing with crank on Ebay this weekend if anyone is interested along with a full front end of a F2 for anyone who wants to convert their "K" into twin discs (ive done it on mine it it stops alot better)

That engine number should be a UK F2 model
