CB750 / Disc interchanageability
« on: March 02, 2009, 09:36:52 AM »
Probably not even a word, but i hope you know what I mean.

I bought another disc for my K1 and it is a good bit bigger in diameter. I think it was from a 76 bike. I thought that the front disc was the same throughout the K series. Did Honda change the disc size at some time? Any idea which models had yje larger disc?

Thanks

CB750 / Looking for a connector block
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:06:26 PM »
Still in the throes of dismantling my K1 and have removed the battery tray and other brackets for renovation.
I noticed that I did not have a fuse box  ??? and also that the connecting plug to the rectifier had been removed and the wires soldered together.
Not much chance of buying these seperately without replacing the rectifier and harness. (Both basically OK)
Anyone got these (or either half) lying around that they wish to part with?

Please pm with info. I am happy to pay for them

Cheers

CB750 / Honda and its laquer
« on: January 01, 2009, 07:03:21 PM »
Started to dismantle the K1 and find the fork legs are still mostly laquered. What is the common approach here, strip, polish and re laquer? or stop at the polishing?

I guess Halfords clear laquer is OK for this application. The same will apply for the engine cases and the rocker cover. Views appreciated.

Hapy new year folks

CB750 / Old favorite? Upgrading the front brake
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:58:37 PM »
Hi Folks
Had a read on the SOHC site and found a few bits, but has anyone in the UK upgraded the single disc for anything substantial?

I have been riding modern stuff for a few years and the front stopper on the K1 is somewhat lacking.
I know that I can add an extra disc, but does this really make much difference?
Will something else fit? Something more modern onto the existing rotor perhaps or a different set of calipers, rotors and master cylinder?

Looking for ideas and experience from you people that have much more experience than me. I understand the option to keep it totally standard, for the sake of authentecity, but I do like to stop.

Thoughts??

CB750 / Piranaha ignition
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:27:33 PM »
Hi , me again,

I have seen a Piranaha system for sale and wondered if anyone else had any knowledge of these. I was aware of their car systems, but not anything for bikes.

May buy if the price is right

CB750 / Replacement Honda Exhausts
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:24:40 PM »
Hi All,

Just been out in the garage taking a few bits off the K1. I will be doing a few jobs over the winter, to make the old girl a bit prettier.

Anyway, I took off the new (by previous owner) 4 into 4 system (from David Silver) and was amazed at the quality. The chrome plating was crap. Large aras did not look as if they had much if any plating in the areas that do not get seen.

I was a bit dissapointed to see this. I wondered if this was a rogue set or are they all like this.

I will have to make sure that they stay dry and clean if they are to last a reasonable time

Thoughts welcome

CB750 / Books on CB 750
« on: November 10, 2008, 09:49:18 PM »
Hi All, me again. Somewhere I found a review on the various books on CB750's. Thinks like the Haynes book and the Gold Series as well as the Mark Haycock book.
My kind wife has promised me one for Christmas, if I tell her which to get. Anyone else been here and could give some info.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

CB500/550 / Vibration through handlebars
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:40:06 PM »
Anyone any experience of this. Symtoms are a high frequency vibration through the throttle side of the bars. Enough to make your hand go numb after about 5 to 10 miles.
Engine is set up correctly, timing, valves and carbs well balanced.
Ideas appreciated

CB750 / Leaks at cylinder head/exhaust downpipes
« on: November 03, 2008, 12:52:59 PM »
Hi All, I am at it again. I have been fiddling with the K1 trying to eliminate some popping/backfiring in the exhausts. (usually on the overrun)
Done the points/timing exercise and the advance/retard is working fine. I will need to balance the carbs at some stage, but I have noticed some gas blowing from the exhaust downpipes. The previous owner fitted a new set of standard exhausts and looking at the head, the mounts have also been replaced. It seems to be leaking where the slots are machined into the pipes just by the clamps (Hope this makes sense) Before I take it all off, is this unusual? Apologies if this is a daft question, but I have no experience of these hondas.
Thanks again

CB750 / Points versus Boyer
« on: November 02, 2008, 01:37:58 PM »
Hi All, I guess this has been around a few times, so apologies to those who are fed up with it.
I am trying to get the dwell angle and strobe timing to work on my K1. New points plate etc fitted.
Is it worth junking this and going straight to a Boyer. (Where do most fit the box?) On the US forum, there is a large article relating to the Dyna system as to where it causes sparks to reduce as rpm increase, so I ahve dismissed the Dyna.
Thoughts comments gratefully received
