CB750 / K1 ID Plate rivits« on: April 27, 2009, 10:17:34 AM »
Anyone know wher I can get the little rivits that hold the ID plate on the steering head. This is for a US import. I had to remove the plate for the powder coating.
I believe that they are the sort that cut their own threads as they are hammered in. Thanks in advance Seamus 588

Sound like an interesting beast. I guess it was a shade quicker than standard

Sorry Bryan, it is 64mm. Been reading on the other site and there is lots on 70 odd piston sizes. Stayed in my brain.

CB750 / Re: ART Pistons« on: April 24, 2009, 09:01:58 PM »
Thanks folks. Remeasured the bore at 74mm (makes 810 volume)
As for fireblades, I had a 929 and a 1000RR, followed by an SP2. so hopping up a CB 750 is not on the radar. I like restoring bikes of my youth (Did a Commando and a Bonneville so far) and really liked the CB750 first time round, hence this one. I seem to recall that someone did an 810 conversion in the 70's. but I could be mistaken. Thanks again for the info Seamus 591
CB750 / Re: ART Pistons« on: April 24, 2009, 04:29:14 PM »
Thanks Bryan. These pistons do not have any other marking except the ART initials by the gudgen pin. I thought that all Honda pistons were marked with "ex" or similar on the crown. There are no markings on the crown (that I have found so far).
Appreciate the thoughts though. A search seems to suggest that all sorts of pistons get used in threse engines. Cheers Seamus 592
CB750 / ART Pistons« on: April 23, 2009, 10:58:17 PM »
Hi All,
I have been cleaning things up and noticed that my pistons are not flat, but domed with cut outs for the valves. The pistons are marked ART by the gudgen pin. A quick measure gave me around 63.5mm This is above the 1mm Honda info. Could this be part of an aftermarket kit? Any info appreciated. I guess someone has been playing with my internals. Cheers Seamus 593
CB750 / Re: Take its head off??« on: April 22, 2009, 09:24:57 PM »
Thanks folks. I knew that I would have to remove the pistons and the plan was to use masking tape to attach the mains to the crank. (marking them top and bottom)
I have a full gasket set from Dave Silver and I believe that all the seals etc are present. I will have to get the piston circlips as well. Cam chain is a good idea. Many thanks for the thoughts Seamus 594

Did you manage to get the document sorted? If not, send me a link and I'll see if I can get it altered at work

Head and barrels came off a treat. Many thanks for the advice.
May as well strip it down and check the rest whilst I am at it. The cases need repainting and that lump is very awkward to clean properly. May as well bead blast these cases and paint when I am doing the rest. I believe that I can remove the crank and gearbox internals by splitting the cases and that I dont have to remove the altenator rotor and clutch. I think I am getting to be a masochist!! Still, I have the powder coating back, so some progress Cheers Seamus 596

More thanks in order. The head will be off this weekend with the barrels. These will be blasted and repainted. Hopefully will also be reunited with a painted engine by mid week. Yhen the challenge of getting the engine back into the frame.
Cheers all Seamus 597

Thanks again people.
There was always going to be two pairs of hands as I needed help to get the motor out. I will use some of the above suggestions and see which method works for me. Appreciate the input Seamus 598

Thanks for the replies.
One of my thoughts was to use some pipe insulation on the frame tubes prior to installing the engine. (like the towels idea). I have not got any experience of this and I appreciate the views of folk that have done this job Thanks Again Seamus 599

I have the frame back from coating and will have the engine finished in a week or so. Does anyonr have a good method for fitting the engine back into the frame?
Thought about laying the engine on its side and laying the frame over it. (Nothing attached to frame at the moment, so spomething like this could work. Hopefully someone with experience could advise. Cheers Seamus 600
