When look at the price of a LiOn battery pack for a drill or a laptop that's not a bad price. Great for bikes that don't have a kickstart fitted .. why the hell did they stop fitting them?

I wouldn't like to try and kick my 650 single or my dads 1200 for that matter.

Cost cutting, less parts and less machining operations! :))
-
What is wrong with a bump start or just charge your battery. He is not going to sell many on here. We all have kick starts ;D
-
Agreed maybe bumping Trig they cant do :D :D

You try bumping a 650 thumper you have to run at about 20 mph.

The charging circuit on my VFR is not enough when in heavy traffic with the lights on (as always I do) so had to jump start it one morning. No kickstart of course and 230kgs (surprisingly I thought that would be more than a CB750 but about the same).

I bump started my VFR800 a few times as I had unswitched Oxford heated grips fitted and was always leaving them on...
:(
-
Problem for me is I have the limbs of Johnny Rotten in his teens so won't risk letting it go...
-
Ichecked out the amazon ones , they are 80 pounds so silvers is looking like a good buy at 40, however all the makes will probably be chinese shit quality and have a life span of 1 year or less so it leaves me wondering if they are worth it
-
Chinese about right Pete 1 year bang ;)

I'm not convinced... it'll sit on a shelf... and be dud when you need it. (well, in my garage anyways). With cars / other bikes in the family all you need is a set of jump leads surely.
Admittedly great for rescues... but only if no other vehicles about. And chance of that....?
-
Tend to agree Simon. It is an alluring gadget and there is the niceness of not having to open the bonnet etc but at a cost...

:(
I do that with my Triumph far to often can't bump that though as the stupid alarm would immobilize it. >:(
Can't go wrong with jump leads with 6 bikes and 6 cars at home I can guarantee there's always at least one that's dead.

My Guzzi had Oxford grips professionally fitted (by the dealer's 16 yo son it looked) and it amazed me that they're just hot-wired to the battery. Yup, I read, they have a cut-out voltage ... but asking for trouble it seems.
Now rewired through a relay which is held on with ignition... ie every time you turn the bike off the heaters trip to OFF and need positively selecting ON again.
An hours job but well worth the effort.

totally agree, should always be wired through ignition

Simon are you telling me you go out in all temperatures/distances on that Griso? ???
-
The modern "Hot Grips" are very clever bits of kit.
They sense the noise on the 12V feed that indicates that the engine is running.
If you switch off the engine (as I do when I nip in for my newspaper), the unit stays "on" (but not heating) for a while until you restart the engine, when I goes back to the heat setting you had previously.
They connect directly to the battery via a fuse and don't need a relay.
I've fitted them to my last three Triumphs as I found the OEM grips were under powered and over priced.
My VFR had the old wrap-around grips with a single toggle switch... the "good" old days 8)

Bloody hell,
I don't think mine are like that Steve... 2011 vintage thereabouts. I don't have the original instructions with them, but to be honest they did seem to heat up with the bike otherwise dead... not impressed with that.
Hi Tom! When you come home from 30 degs all day-every-bloody-day them heated grips get used whenever it dips below ... er.. 20 degs!
Seriously, I asked the PO to take 'em off & put the original grips back.... couldn't. But to be honest I do quite like 'em.... most of my riding is in the cool summer evenings... wish I'd had them 30 yrs ago instead of the heavy leather gloves with 12v liners / wires up my back / arms etc etc!
Those Sunday eve trips over the Penninnes... in all bloody weathers, leaving 'mum' with fresh washing for another week at BAe Warton... what joy!

Not to sure how we got on to heated grips but I'll keep it going.
I love my heated grips I think they should be mandatory it makes it so much safer when you can feel your hands.

I reckon DSS will refund 100% of all your costs. On the rare occasion they've stuffed up over an order of mine there's never been any quibble / drama.
Simon.
