Title: Where does this bit go?
Post by: Drew400 on February 07, 2015, 12:37:51 PM
Hi all,

According to my parts catalogue, this part is called a 'stay, speed unit' (#38555-377-000). However, I can't make out where it goes nor do my inadequate photos of the dismantle help me.

Can you help?

Also, where does the attached green wire go?

Ta, D.

Would you believe it, I was only looking at that on mine yesterday. It goes under the top bit of frame, just under where rubber mount is for the tank on the left side (N/S). I have that bit attached, but nothing attached to it and I don't even know what a speed unit is !!!. Can't take pic as nowhere near bike

Hi Nurse Julie,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll have another trawl through my photos now that, with your help, I know where to look.

Cheers,

A.

is it the bracket that the rubber strap thingy with wire loops on it  clips onto (bit like a battery strap)

The only other thing is some JDM bikes have a speed indicator lamp  on them and this could be to hold the relay for that's rubber mount loop.

Hi Drew,
The photo shows the part in situ on my bike - easy for me to look at as the tank is off at the moment.
There is also part 99 shown in the parts list called 'Band, Wire Harness' which looks like it should go between this part
and a corresponding hook on the frame. There isn't one on my bike.
I think the wire is the earth connector for the horn - on my bike it is fitted under the coil mount.

Nice one all, thank you.

I have now fitted the part (but not the horn.. will do that soon) and ordered the rubber strap that was also missing from my bike... that's quite common, apparently.

It also occurs to me that I wouldn't have known how to search for this on the site, despite the information clearly being there already, albeit from 2006. How did you find it Ash?

Cheers,

D.

Where did you order your strap from Drew?
I have found that it is superseded by part 70284-538-010 but haven't seen any UK suppliers so would end up paying loads for delivery.

Julie is spot on. It is a harness clamp. It holds the loom up against the frame.

Chris,

I got mine from Steve at 400fourbits (although it was marked on his site as 'rare').

Good luck.

Thanks Drew. Can't see any on there now, you must have had the only one!

DSS list the part if you search by part number, and give the part number that superseded the original, but currently out of stock.
Maybe I'll add it to the list of bits to buy when I make up an order - perhaps they'll have some by then.

Hi Chris
I have just ordered one from DSS, out of stock as you say. I have been put on their e-mail list and they will let me know when more available, I will then let you know if that helps.
