Title: Brake switch
Post by: Woodside on April 01, 2020, 07:22:26 PM
Is there an easy way to test the front brake switch on the 500.
It would be nice to know before I tidy it up and fit and fill the system
Thanks in advance

Not easy without pressure only ever known 1 go wrong, and that was under Honda warantee

Ok
Thing is
I have 3-4 here and all have been off a bike for at least 5 years if not 10+
So god knows what condition they are in.
Perhaps I will sort them all at least one must be ok

... I guess the most obvious thing to do is to check each one is open circuit before you bother fitting it/them. (Ie if continuity is present in the dry / unpressurised state then it’s probably duff)

Have you checked p.103 of the Shop Manual Honda CB500-550? https://www.classiccycles.org/media//DIR_1653304/DIR_1653404/DIR_1653507/ecc6759db0a214d5ffff8820ffffe41e.pdf

All it sez in that is check continuity with lever pulled which means it has to be fitted and bled, that dont help to OP with which one to fit.
I have read on the US forum about somebody sticking a rod in the hole and pushing but i dont like that idea as it might damage the internals
