Misc / Open / Why do we do it?
« on: November 22, 2020, 08:48:15 PM »
I thought I would treat my 23 year old Aprilia Pegaso to a new monoshock as the old one was totally shot.
That soon turned into refurbing the hole rear end ::) and before I knew it I'v spent £500+ on a £900 bike.
If it was a car I would have put it out of its missary years ago.

Renting a car is all well and good but I have two vans kitted out for work and drive the one that suits my days work best on a given day.
So car share is out of the question. How would a driverless car drive into a feild that doesn't have a postcode or address?

Calling a car or driver on an App is also out of the question for me. Anyone that knows me has seen my flip phone.
You would have a shock if you saw the laptop I'm using its about 15years old not all the keys do what there supposed too and the screen is held up with molegrips.  ;D

Electric is coming weather you like it or not.
One of my customers is a major car dealer he sells almost everything new apart from Fiat and Ford and the posh Italian stuff.
His managers all drive Teslas.
I don't understand why so many people suffer from range anxiety when the average commute is less then a 30 mile round trip.

Vans will be more of an issue
My daily commute is normally around 100 and 130miles. Most electric cars can achive this now but I only drive vans and I will be sticking with Diesel until they manage to make a van that can achieve that with at least half a load on board.

I can't see vehicals with Tacho's being to much of an issue as they are forced to stop so that gives a chance for the batteries to be topped up.

The infrastructure is the largest obstical. At the moment manufacturers are all compeating with each other so they all have different chargers. Much like how phones were a few years ago until the chargers were all standerdized.

Tesla are planning to make the batteries easy to remove. Slide in slide out so they can be changed in seconds at a service station. This is how EV's must go to be viable.
In reality it should be quiker then stopping for fuel and queing waiting to pay.

Gas is also on the way out and Cremitoriums will be putting us all in large pressure pots and flushing us down the drains.
The only thing left will be pacemakers and Titanium joints for recycling.

I love impact drivers brilliant tools in the right hands.
When the chippys at work get them out I cringe because they mash the heads or sheer them off screws and I have no chance of removing them after.

Just lately I'v really fancied a Z and I think today I have worked out why.
When I get home from work my dad has been putting the magic picture box on and watching CHiPs almost every day.

I remember years ago while at work a hole appeared in my trouser leg it starter off about the size of a 5 pence peace and then within minutes my trouser leg was almost falling off. After that I lernt not to fill batteries up the night before when your half asleep

Why is there no V5 how can the seller prove he even owns it,  has a legitimate title to the bike, that it is not stolen or an insurance write off ?
No rear photo showing a registration mark?

The V5 is not proof of ownership it is a log of registered keepers I have bought and sold vans and bikes without them.
I am the registered keeper of my sisters car but not the legal owner and I have recently bought a Transit tipper it is registered with a building firm but I am the legal owner.
A bill of sale is all thats needed.

They do tend to get quit warm in use.
My Aprilia seems to eat them as its mounted under the seat close to a twin exhaust.
Most modern bikes mount them out in open to keep them cool. So the fan can only be a good thing

As we say "there is restored" and then there is restored  ::) When some one has fitted a £85 repro seat for a K3 to K6 instead of a correct K1 seat that can set you back £1000  :o

Welcome Mark
Are the K1 seats really that much now? I could do with one for the gold bike.
Its well worth getting the right seat as the later ones are a bit bulky looking and compleatly change the look

Looks great Steve. Orange is notoriously crappy when trying to get an even finish. When shop fitting for Sainsburys it was always hard to earn your money hundreds of miles from home and no digs and Orange used to take six coats or more. So you always new you were in for a long day

« on: August 15, 2020, 08:56:04 PM »
I have a Henderson double door aswell. Always ment to stick a motor to it at about 14feet long its a heavy lump.
The door has been opened and closed at least 4 times a day seven days a week for the past 30years.
My door has dropped in the middle aswell but its well past its best it has wear on one roller and the holes in both hinges where the springs attach have worn right through the bronze bushes and about 10mm into the hinges.  :o
Check the condition of the hooks on the ends of the springs they go with a hell of a bang when they snap and hurt like hell when they stick the spring in your legs.
Over 30 years it has had countless new locks, three springs and five spring hooks and now it needs two hinges, spring hooks and rollers.
I think it may be time for a new one.

Tax disks vanished on my vehicles almost as fast as the owners manuals and original tool kits.
