CB500/550 / Re: Candy Garnet Brown« on: May 20, 2024, 10:01:30 AM »Will get some of this. Bought a can of 1k lacquer to experiment with. Trying to find how much of the black finish is down to the basecoat or the lacquer finish. Looking at the black on one of Menno's tanks, I can't hope to replicate that! 3
CB500/550 / Re: NGK plugs for 500« on: May 16, 2024, 06:28:07 PM »
I ran resistor plugs and caps for years and didn't have a problem. I think DSS sells the R plugs for the 500. But I must admit I now use non R plugs.
My 71 500 came with 7.5k plug caps from new I believe. 4

Decided on a close candy match (or maybe not) to the brown.
But haven't yet got the paint for the black sides. Any suggestions appreciated for quality black aerosols for this? Will use the SprayMax lacquer on top. 5

Sorry to hear you are understandably down at this time Bryan.
Many of us heading for the cliff, but look inland and hope you will find solace in another direction. I sure you get satisfaction helping online mates here. It's over 20 years since I went online looking for advice and you were there back then. Can't remember how I found you but it was before this forum I'm sure. Keep on keeping on. 6
CB500/550 / Re: Side stand too close to the number one front pipe issue ?« on: May 14, 2024, 06:30:45 PM »
I had the same problem with my 4/4 set from silvers. It would clang on the pipe coming up.
Bit of a bodge, but I stuck a tiny piece of 1/8" rubber against the stop. Phil 7
Anorak's Corner / Re: Metal Covered Plug Caps« on: May 11, 2024, 06:47:29 PM »
My new 500 came with them. Don't remember replacing them, but probably did as bike was used year round.
Spent a fair few ££ buying up a set from three different sources in the last few years. 8
Project Board / Re: Teds new project a CB500 K1 mostly version 0.5 circa 1972.« on: May 04, 2024, 07:02:26 PM »
Ted, for the life of me I can't remember an oil seal sitting in the retainer. The only oil seal fits in the sprocket fixing plate which the rear wheel collar comes through.
This is a 550 but should be the same. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb550f1-super-sport-550-four-1976-england-rear-wheel_big00026127f11_cceb.gif But I might be wrong! Phil 9
CB500/550 / Re: Swinging arm bushes« on: May 02, 2024, 06:55:45 PM »Usually you find the collar more worn than the bushes, the early one is still available, but bloody expensive, the later one is not available but you can use the early one, preferably with the bolt having a grease nipple at each end rather than the one in middle of swing arm That's been my experience as well. Managed to find a couple of the precision steel rods when they were cheaper. 10

I had a feeling this was on the cards. I sent an email a couple of weeks ago and didn't even get their automated replay.
I am down about £910 as I have been waiting 11 months for CB500 pipes. I did pay on credit, we'll see. I did nearly jump an buy the delkevic set when it was £950, but now I'll have to pay £1100. 11

Only bus lanes around here are Slough and they are all OK to use. 12

One per points/coil set. But this is OOS.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191717401937 So only two singles available. Searched gammatronics and this cam up, so may have a go at a couple. https://quasarelectronics.co.uk/Item/velleman-k2543-electronic-transistor-ignition-kit 15

Busso seem to have reacted to the new reality. £786 + unfortunate UK import at present if you can get them.
