Not a Honda, but just shows how crazy auction prices and buyers can be - that’s about £44,600!

Where's My Old Bike? / Re: CB750K2 (TYP 211M) is it still 'out there'?
« on: January 24, 2023, 04:00:27 PM »
Wonder if DVLA would have a record of last known keeper? Type of info probably confidential and not available to general public!
When I was looking for my old gold K1 (JML 60K) a few years back I wrote to the DVLA for the history of previous owners but because of the emerging GDPR they no longer provided that service. They did however suggest I write to them with a letter for the last recorded keeper (with a SAE) and they would forward it on, heard nothing back.

I also posted on the FB page of the supplying dealer (Bill Bunn M/Cs South Ealing) who messaged back to say he'd carried out a HPI check for me and it was sadly written off in 1989.

Fingers crossed Richard's old bike hasn't met the same fate.

Bloody hell, all this talk about CB750's and reading back though some posts has got me hankering - someone please slap me!  :D

Where's My Old Bike? / CB750K2 (TYP 211M) is it still 'out there'?
« on: January 24, 2023, 09:57:08 AM »
Hi Folks,

A riding mate of mine (Richard Gipps) who I rode with in the mid-70's and 80's (and in more recent times) who now lives in Munich has asked me if his old CB750K2 (TYP 211M) is still 'out there'. He bought it new in August 1973 and has lots of found memories of it touring in the UK and Europe. According to the DVLA it change owners in June 2008, was last taxed in 2009 and was red back then.

Grateful for any info - he's not looking to buy it back, but is just wondering if it's owned by a forum member?

I've attached a couple of photos, one of the bike when new and on tour in Northern Europe in the 70's.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi James,

I haven't been here for a while - just pop in from time-to-time and lurk in the background, so only just seen the fantastic work you've done (again) on the two K0s, absolutely stunning!

All the best to you and everyone for a Happy Christmas.

Cheers,
Andrew

Oh, still linked to Honda via my XL250K0 Motosport . 8)

Yep, I was an avid CHiPS watcher too - not that it influenced the accessories I bolted onto my poor old Z750 twin in the mid-late 70s! ;D  Great bike the Z750, and most underrated.  8)

Wow Andrew what I can see you have done looks really good - love the rear end view of the exhuasts - so what's the next project to occupy your mind or have you plenty of other interests to keep you going?

All the best for the future cheers Ted

Thanks Ted,
The plan is to focus on my unrestored 72 UK XL250 over the winter months (although not a great deal to do other some light cleaning and preservation work) and stay on the lookout for maybe a restored gold UK K1 like my one in 1976 (if can find one??), or possibly a restored K0? I'm in no rush.

Other than working on my bikes and TR6, looking after the house and garden I do volunteer work in Farnham Park on Wednesdays and some Fridays. Yesterday, (my 64th birthday (for the tenth time!!)) I was out cutting back oak trees, hedges and clearing brambles etc (got cut to shreds! ::)) which kept me occupied. I will get used to being retired one day I'm sure.

Thats a forward move if ever there was one.  :o

I hate selling bikes as I'm sure we all do but realistically, there will be other lumps of dull metal, wrapped in assorted bits of plastic and rubber that will tap on your door in the coming years that will scream for love and attention, whether they'll be on 2 of 4 wheels.
Every move is a good move. I'm super chuffed its gone to a great new owner and its good you can see the progress through here or the like. You've obviously thought about this hard decision but if it pushes you forward , enables you to breath and  progress then its a good move and this can be a chapter that shines in your life. I admire your decision, It cant have been easy...Well done Andrew, seriously, well done.

Shall I have auto-trader sent straight to your door or do you want it electronically ;) 8)

With very bestest Regards

Thanks Laverdaroo,
You are spot on. Yes, I thought long and hard about this decision and it wasn't easy, but the motivation left me so I guess it was cover the bike up or move forward without it. I chose the latter and I'm so pleased it's gone to a good home and to someone who will take it forward and enjoy it.

I use Auto-Trader online, but thanks for the offer....... ;D

All the best both,
Andrew

Announcements / Sold my K1
« on: November 04, 2021, 10:33:57 AM »
After months and months of deliberating I finally decided to sell my K1 which has gone to the very good home of a nice enthusiastic forum member who I know will do a great job of finishing the old girl off and put her back on the road where she belongs rather than sitting a garage unused since 2015. I’m sure he’ll make himself known in due course.

I would like to thank forum members for their sage advice and support since I joined in Jan 2016, particularly over these last couple of years which many of you know has been a very tough time for me and my family; those that have been extremely supportive know who they are so I won’t embarrass them by naming names, and just I case I inadvertently leave someone out!

However, you don’t get rid of me that easily as I still have my 72 XL250 K0 Motosport (and my 76 Z900 of course), so I will still be popping in from time to time and contribute where I feel I can.

Cheers, Andrew

How times haven't really changed(ish), this is an interesting look back to 70's safety riding 'tactics' and it's great to so many 70's bikes (road & trail) being ridden in period; shame they only used Hondas to crash test, even a K0 at 5:30.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFY3_JcUl-c&ab_channel=TrippOnTwoWheels

My K1 carbs are now all sorted, Mark (MK Classics) not only managed to extract the snapped pilot jet see: http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,25765.0.html but also the chewed Keyster air screws out which were slightly oversized (not the first time he's had problems with Keyster) and the originals are now reinstalled.

I refitted the carbs (for the third time) at the weekend and it's now idling which was the original problem.

Me too, I would class myself as semi-proficient in what I do and know - we had a saying in the army 'Senior Officers were promoted to the point of incompetence'.......... ???

Welcome from me too Shaun, glad you found a decent bike which doesn't need too much tinkering with, so if it ain't broke don't fix it. OR, you could fiddle with it until it is......... :D

Andrew

When I was 17 I bought a TR2 from the then Lord Scarsdale of Kedleston Hall via my late father who was in the car trade - it was a black one with rotten sills etc. I hated the dam thing as the ride was so firm - it was if I have remembered correctly one turn of the wheel from lock to lock - I lived in the countryside with my parents at the time so it was typical B road drive into town - a nightmare to keep in a straight line.

When it rained water got past the window seals so I got a wet bum. After a couple of weeks I had the bodywork fixed and sold it & bought an FB Victor. I think I sold it for around £450. Hate to think what it would have been worth today. For some reason although I like the styling of the TR6 my favourite is the TR5 PI - closely followed by the Triumph Vitesse convertable or GT6.

Ted,

TRs aren’t the most waterproof vehicles are they  ;D

My wife considers the 4a a bone shaker!  >:(  She would rather get in the Audi A5 Cabriolet.. OK…

A TR6 would probably have been a better ride than a rigid axle TR4A.  Lesson learned!

Cheers,
Jerry

Undoubtedly Jerry!  ;D ;D

Andrew,

Apologies.  I missed your question regarding the car I am selling.

It is a 1965 TR4A without the IRS.  It was an early US export car.  The US market was and still is a lover of 'live/rigid' rear axles.  The Mustang only went IRS in 2020! So Triumph modified the new IRS chassis so they could put cart springs and a live axle back in!

This car was repatriated about '91 and was restored and converted to RHD.  As it was exported to California originally and ended its US life in Pasadena, it knew nothing about rain and is completely rust free.

It should be up for auction on "The Market" shortly.

Cheers,

Jerry

Ahhh Jerry, you're clearly a man with excellent taste is classics cars!  8)  I've been a TR owner since 1983, an ownership which has included two TR4As, a TR3A and four TR6's, all UK cars.

Good luck with the sale of the 4A and finding a nice 750/4.

Cheers,
Andrew
