CB750 / Re: My '71 CB750K1 is quite slow...
« on: August 23, 2021, 05:12:04 PM »
Thanks philward, yes, standard (original) intake, the gaiters and clips are in good condition, and the exhaust is standard HM340 except one replacement pipe to pattern. I'll adjust the needle to get the mix a little leaner.
In the meantime I will take the medicine offered by Nurse Julie  and confirmed by spitfire - I'll replace the plugs!

Original K1 exhausts are HM300, the K2 was fitted with HM340 with extra baffling so maybe they are restricting the carbs/gas flow - not sure if you have to change the main jet when fitting HM340s but someone will know?

Cheers,
Andrew

Ash, can you please let me have the Honda email address you used as I'd like to contact Honda UK for a dating/build certificate for my 72 UK XL250 Motosport and to ask how many were imported in 72-73, not many of that I'm sure.

Thanks,
Andrew

Dear Ashley Derrick,

Thank you for contacting Honda UK.

Please be advised that we would also require the engine number and the model in order to be able to issue the Year of Manufacture document.

Please also note that there is an administration fee of £30 (£25 + VAT) which can be paid by bank transfer and that this can take up to 6 weeks if the information needs to be sourced from Japan.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Once more, thank you for contacting Honda UK. If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

CB750 / K1-K2 Airbox to carb rubber
« on: July 27, 2021, 11:31:14 AM »
I think the one of the left is a later version available from DSS etc as the other 3 have no lip so I believe these are the originals as shown in the K1-K2 Part List?

If so, does anyone have an original non-lipped rubber one going spare?

Many thanks,
Andrew

CB750 / Re: Slow Jet Size?
« on: July 22, 2021, 10:26:04 PM »
Well, the jets are finally out - the carbs were inside pretty clean although there's evidence they've been very dirty in the past, so they'll be ultrasonically cleaned and reassembled.

Jet sizes: the jets removed were 35 slow and 120 main, so given modern fuel runs cooler giving symptoms of rich running on a std step-up and I believe NGK recommend using a hotter plug, so I'll go with Trigger and Paul G's recommendation of 40/110.

Plugs: what plugs are 750 owners running especially if using the 40/110 set-up?

Cheers, Andrew

CB500/550 / Re: Classic bike breakdown cover
« on: July 19, 2021, 11:18:24 AM »
Like Charlie mentioned above, it comes with a Footman James policy - never needed it myself, but a mate who is also with FJ used it when his RD500 seized up on a rideout they sent a RAC van with a foldup bike trailer stashed neatly in the van; I thought that was pretty cool, sadly the RD500 wasn't! ::)

Bike cover also comes with my RAC cover for the Eurobox.

Gertcha!

This isn't my handiwork, I'm too heavy handed for such intricacies!  Well done Mark Kelleher of MK Classics in Woodley who used heat and more finesse that I can must muster......

Brilliant result! Photos of then and now would be great too.

I do wish my old gold K1 (JML 60K) would turn up but I've been told it was written off in 1989....:(

Hi Andrew,
I have only just read your post, I echo the sentiments already posted here wishing you well as you come to terms with your loss.
For many years my wife was a volunteer at the Derby McMillan Unit so we are well aware of how precious and fragile life is.
With the support of your friends and family, the passage of time, you will I feel sure eventually work on the bike again as a healing distraction.
All the best for the future I look forward to reading your posts on the progress be it this year or next.
Cheers Ted

Thank you Ted. The MacMillan Cancer Support staff and volunteers were excellent and so compassionate and caring, they are indeed, like our NHS nurses truly vocational. In fact, because of Covid restrictions Bev's funeral was limited to only 17, so we created a 'Just Giving' page and raised well over £2,000 for MacMillan through friends and family.

As for the K1, I recently started working on it again which was therapeutic and gave me an issue straight away, or should I say 'challenge' -  http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,25765.0.html
Cheers,
Andrew

I bet you are still grinning Andrew ;D. Lovely looking bike.
Yep, I was still grinning Dave, that is until the storms came on Wed night and I had to abandon a rideout with a few Zed mates but the sun will shine again soon I'm sure.  8)

Those things are just lovely. Wish I hadn't sold either of mine.
Yep, they sure are Roy and they're just as good to ride too as I'm sure you'd agree. I waited 40 years to buy a Z900 (with several bikes in-between); it was an early 60th birthday present from Bev in May 17 as I was planning to PX my gold K1 for one in May 77 but met her in Nov 76 and spent all my money trying to impress her, as we did back then... ::)
