That is pretty gungy Dennis, but not too bad considering - my K1 has been off the road since 2015 and luckily the fuel tap had been turn off so the carbs weren't too bad at first glance, so it'll be interesting to see what the insides are like.

Cheers,
Andrew

Seems common problem - in my K1's case they may have been overtightened or fuel varnishing around the threads which has acted like 'Loctite'!

There's some debate on jet size on another thread I've got running.

Cheers,
Andrew

K2-K6, the bike was imported from Wisconsin in 2009 from a long I believe a term owner so not particularly high altitude so it will be interesting to see what the other three slow jets are?

Thanks Trig, I'll PM Paul.

Cheers,

So after almost two years pretty much off the saddle, I needed no more motivation today to get my arse on my Z900 and go for nice long a sunny rideout into the Surrey and Hampshire Hills. Next will be the K1 when the carbs are sorted.  8)

CB750 / Slow Jet Size?
« on: June 14, 2021, 10:06:01 AM »
I posted in a previous thread that a slow jet snapped off in the K1's carb body, see: http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,25765.0.html

The broken jet was a 35, I thought the standard size was 40 which may have been contributing to why it wouldn't idle?

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

I got a wave of motivation today and whipped the carb bank off and they are surprisingly clean - hopefully the broken slow jet will be as easy to remove as the carbs and the other 3 don't break off too. Then they'll be stripped down inspected, ultrasonically cleaned, rebuilt and balanced and I might get to ride the K1 this year after buying it in 2018 after UK Pete took the old girl off the road in 2015.

Interestingly, the broken slow jet was a 35; I thought they were 40 as standard, so this may have contributed to why it wouldn't idle?

That's it, I've just finished counting to a million and I'm all calm now............ ;D I'll be taking the carb bank off next week, I'm guessing the air box is first?

So, today I decided to make a start on trying to get my K1 to idle by removing the slow jets to check and clean them.  Nope, the first one snapped off in the carb body so now the carb bank will now have to come off!

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / OEM Float Bowl Gaskets
« on: June 04, 2021, 12:09:30 PM »
Anyone know where I can get original float bowl gaskets for my 750 K1 or know the part number as I cant find it in the Parts List?

DS do them in a gasket set kit at £25 per carb or repros at a few quid each, but I'm always wary of repro stuff or are these ok in use?

Thanks,
Andrew

Thanks for the advice about the exhaust bushes, I finally got these sorted properly last night. All I need to do now is to sort the front brakes out, and fit a non leaking petrol tap, then I can see if she fires up! Once ready I'll fit the number plate and get some insurance so I can start to run the engine in. I am watching my emails like a hawk, waiting for notification that the tap is on its way.

Thanks also for the comments, I took these photos yesterday when I was maneuvering the bike to the back of the garage, so I could get my car back in out of the rain.

The Zed1A is looking great Dave, I'm sure you're very pleased.

Can I ask about the interlocking tiles on your garage floor - do they get marked or torn up by the centre stand and would they survive a car jack?  What thickness are they and who supplied them as I'm looking to fit some to my garage floor?

Thanks,
Andrew
