CB500/550 / Re: 500 Brake pad options wanted.
« on: September 19, 2022, 08:05:51 AM »
Using the same SBS pads as Oddjob in my 500 double disc setup. Definately better than the pads I removed.
Old pads were not particularly worn, but lacked feel and initial bite. These are better.
Still 1972 brakes though  ::)

Excellent work. A well built Triton is always a thing of beauty. Always lusted after one, but never succeded. Happy with my RGS replica though.
Be good to hear it running

Taking a long time to come to the market. I recall reading about those tyres as prototypes, some time in the early 2000's. Think it was in New Scientist.

The Halfords professional range are very good. They, like all other brands do break, especially when used all the time and sometimes in inventive ways to get a job done. Warranty is a nice fall back  8)
Be surprised if they were still Gedore though. The spanners are pretty chunky compared to other brands.
Like most on here, I still have tools from the 70's, especially like the Elora stuff

Used a company in Birmingham for the chrome on my Suzuki mudguard, rims plus lots of other bits. Looks good and was cheaper than anywhere else I used. May be worth a call
Chromefix is their name

Halfords professional are good especially with the lifetime warrenty. Break it and they replace it free.
Use Lots of halfords tools in the garage and have had no problem swapping broken ones for new.
Heck of a lot cheaper than the usual special brands.

Thank you for the replies.
Ash, how about £12 posted?
Mick, say £15 posted
James £7 posted.
Looking for a good home for them and a couple of beers for me. Assume you are all in the UK for postage as I don't have a clue how much that would be.

CB500/550 / Re: how to clean valves properly
« on: January 10, 2022, 08:59:40 AM »
There is a tool for lapping valves. Fits in a battery drill and it oscillates the valve. Saves loads of time and sore palms.
Had mine for about 35 years and still going strong. They have something similar on Amazon for about 20 quid

He was the chap that produced the cam for my slightly modified 500 four. It is a Yoshi grind. Requested info on the cam from him a year or so ago. Very helpful
Contacted him at joyengineering@btconnect.com

Clever use of odd things. Unusual beast to say the least, but a great job
