It's either the wrong chain if it's like that or the front or rear sprocket don't have the right number if teeth.

I’m pretty sure everything is as it should be, I even took the axle out of the left hand side so the wheel moved forward even more and I could join the chain. I then tried to move the wheel back and tap the axle through but the chain wasn’t long enough to get the wheel back enough to get the axle through again.

I’ve stopped for the day now but will try again tomorrow with any suggestions.

I use a cable tie to pull the ends together then pop in the link.

Do you definitely have the rear wheel in the swingarm as far as it will go? I always join the chain when it's on the sprocket and not in the top or bottom run due to sag.

I’ve managed to get on with a few jobs over the weekend and got to a pint where I was happy to fit the chain.

It is the correct link count for the bike apparently but no matter what, I can’t get the connecting link to fit, it’s about one link too short. From the looking I have done, it should be 94 links and it is. Original rear sprocket and a new 16 front sprocket so I guess everything should be the same and it should fit, but it don’t!

Stumped again!!

That sounds the answer Julie, do you have any idea how he did it?
I know the very basics of how he did it but I'll ask Graham for more info later. Also, PM me over your email address and I'll send you some photos.

I've got keyless fitted to Millie, my 550 Mongrel. Graham made up the wiring and fitted a hidden master isolater switch and one of the handlebar switch gear slide switches as another isolater and the original start button starts the bike.

CB500/550 / Relocating or alternative to ignition switch

Do any of you electrical guys know a good solution for my cafe racer build?  I'm looking to either relocate the ignition or change it to  keyless to make room for my centrally mounted gauge, any thoughts appreciated!

I removed the left side top silencer, loosened the clamps on number two front pipe to find a nice stress free position. Lightly nipped up the clamp on number two port.
I removed the bracket from the upper silencer then re-fitted it as previously. When re-attaching the bracket I could see that the top slot needed a little opening up at the top of the slot to allow the upper exhaust to drop down a tad. A small amount seems to make a difference at the tail pipe end. It all went together well except when clamping the hanger bracket it wanted to pull out of the balancer joint. The Delkevic top bracket has a half circle reinforcing plate attached to the bracket. If I fully tighten the hangar bolt it starts to tip the rear of the silencer.

I'm chewing over the options - might try and fit a sawn in half washer to keep it all flat at the same angle .

Update Just used a slightly thicker stainless washer that has a slight dished shape, fully tightened the nut on the bracket all stayed in place.
