I assume that you use the word "helicoil" as a generic description.

The local independent who rebuilt my Sprint engine explained the different types of "insert". He didn't think much of "helicoil" - don't know what he ended up using, except that it was the type of insert that doesn't require the tang breaking off.

I'd use a professional - for two plugs it can't cost too much.

Sorry John. That doesn't render to a favicon very well!

Misc / Open / Favicon Competition!
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:58:25 AM »
See that little black square with the bike in it on your toolbar/address bar/bookmark/favourite (*delete as appropriate)?  That's a favicon and has been added to the site (by John).

The picture is a Triumph Sprint...

so if any of you out there have a good picture/logo/graphic you'd like to submit, we'll have a little competition. Winner gets his/her icon used on the site!

"Rules":

1. Image must be square!
2. Image can be any size (I'll reduce it)
3. Image must be simple as it has to be rendered to 32x32 pixels

Fire away!

Steve

Or maybe, like Dr Who in "The Library" we could have "Proper Dave"

Mind you, one of those sonic screwdrivers would be ace for removing seized bolts!

Hello Dave.

I'm beginning to wonder whether we should allow any more Daves on here - it gets a bit confusing!

Good luck with the rebuild.

Keep your eyes open on eBay for a period 70's Cibie convertion. I did. 100% more light for the same number of watts...

In the day, we all had "Z" beams, which speared light up the left hand side of the road on dip and illuminated the horizon on main.

I also had an "H" beam in the late 70's which had a dip pattern more like a modern bike or car (ie an uplift on the left hand side)

I picked up an original "H" on eBay recently for my 500/4 for about

John, if the hydraulics are working correctly, it's the same as having a cable.

Are you sure the clutch is OK/adjusted ??

Hi Alan.

When I told my wife that I wanted another bike (after 10 years "off"), she was only concerned that I would buy a modern plastic rocket. When faced with a '72 500/4 she was positively enthusiastic!

Now I have two 500/4s AND a modern plastic rocket...

Sorry about that; John found the setting that stopped everyone except admins from posting.   8)  ::)

CB750 / Re: Neutral switch
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:17:42 PM »
What bike Dave?

The switch sits under the sprocket cover on the side of the engine. If the light comes on when not in neutral it means that the circuit is earthing so suspect a chaffed wire in the harness or a broken switch (check the wiring first).

The switch can be replaced; they just screw out (if anything can be said to "just screw out" on these old bikes...!!)

Some of you may have noticed that we've been off the air for a day or so.

John has re-homed the site with a new hosting company, hence the strange (temporary) url that you may see in your address bar.
