CB350/400 / Tank Cap nightmare...
« on: October 26, 2018, 09:24:17 PM »
Has anyone fitted a new tank cap to a new fuel tank? I ordered both items from DSS but there are no instructions, it's in more parts than an airfix model and I'm snookered!

Misc / Open / Who did I see at Old street in London?
« on: October 23, 2018, 07:10:13 PM »
I was at the Old St roundabout in London when a head popped out of a white van window...'I've got the same bike..I love it' said the guy in the van.
I answered..'are you on the Single overhead Cams forum'?
He replied 'Yes'..
Alas, the pressure of traffic meant that's all that could be said before we parted ways.....

CB350/400 / Clutch Cover ...to paint or to polish?
« on: October 13, 2018, 11:16:47 PM »
The paint on this casing  on my F2 is looking really dull as it is everywhere else. I seem to see different approaches to this casing on internett images and even the cover of the Haynes manual. Should this item be polished as opposed to painted, does it respond especially well?

CB350/400 / Electrical wizard needed
« on: October 11, 2018, 03:20:09 PM »
I've been cleaning up my electrics as in pic 1 , cleaned up the regulator and put all back, replaced fuse box assembly no problem....I'm having trouble with the new starter solenoid though. The new one in pic 2 from DSS goes in at a different angle and that threw my memory out as to what goes where. The cable I've arrowed has a loose other end too just now, I can't think where it goes ( Battery positive?? ) . :-\

CB350/400 / Fuse Box fun and more...
« on: October 07, 2018, 03:55:50 PM »
I recently had a new harness (loom) fitted and new battery too. I soon needed a new rectifier and that was done. Then a black out on the street that turned out to be a couple of blown fuses, something the AA man overlooked  :o  , my local bike shop sorted that out. A new condenser has been ordered as I saw a one on ebay. So I'm working on my electrics but not fast enough it seems. This morning all was dark when I turned the key. I noticed my headlamp switch was in the on position from when I last rode a couple of nights ago, I didn't see that doing any harm but took my battery in for a check in case, all was well with that.
I take off the side panel over the fuse box area and gave this tiny black square thing (arrowed in picture) a good press with the finger and all lit up fine. voom voom off I go.  Next time I try to start the bike down town all was dark again. Pushing and pressing the same thing didn't help this time, so I go to check the fuses, I took out the lower most one, it looked fine, put it back in and all lit up again. When I get home I experiment a bit and find that taking out that little black square didn't make the bike go dark ...so what happened his morning. What could be causing this. Is changing the fuse assembly a good idea or should the next move be something else?

CB350/400 / Painting underside of mudguards
« on: September 25, 2018, 10:12:12 PM »
The mudguards..or fenders on my CB400f2 look great on the outside, less so on the inside but as you can see in the pic it's not really so bad. I'm thinking of painting the undersides sometime soon....any paint recommended?

CB350/400 / Squeaking front brake
« on: September 22, 2018, 10:47:57 AM »
My front brake is capable of squeaking loud enough to have people looking at me funny sometimes, I bet I'm not going to oil them but what can I do, why does this happen if it's not at the disc?

CB350/400 / Fork gaiters on 400/4...cool or naff?
« on: September 13, 2018, 05:19:41 PM »
I'm getting some things done to my CB400 tomorrow and it's the right time to fit the fork gaiters I've got waiting. Feel a bit on the fence...they were never standard at any point (?) but I like the way they add to classic looks...but for better or worse? Your thoughts.....

CB350/400 / Drain tube
« on: September 11, 2018, 03:20:54 AM »
I'm about to fit the oil drain tube I've acquired that goes into breather collector box that goes under the air box.  It came with a sponge in the wide end, I'm not sure this stays in or is just part of the packaging....ding dong ...?

CB350/400 / Rocker cover gasket..
« on: August 27, 2018, 10:09:51 PM »
I'm soon to lift the rocker cover on my CB400F2 for polishing and have purchased a new gasket/packing for it ahead of that. I see it is of the rubber tube type that will fit into a groove. Do I need any sealant for this item. I have Loctite Flange sealant MR5922 handy.
