Many thanks.
I'll get a spring. If the wheel still drags I'll consider sticking hydraulic pad as possible culprit

Many thanks for that advice.
I give in. I'll buy the feeler gauge.

Ok. All fixed but I need to adjust the fixed pad with the screw adjuster. I don't have a spacer or feeler or whatever the dammed gadget is called. What should the space be and any suggestions around the problem.

Hi I need another one of these. its no 337 in the parts list and part no 45119-333-00.
Does anyone have one that they are prepared to sell. Maybe there is another identical part for a Honda which will do.

Sorry crossed wires. You wrote " I should be screwed etc". I have no problems with that. naturally. well I removed the piece and inspected it and the seating of the bearings. It looked like the bearing was not fully seated 2 mm maybe. Also the the top od the thread was distorted due to use of the wrong tool. I bashed the bearings in successfully . I know not very scientific. cleared up the damage to thread and its pretty much ashamed now.

also I need to adjust the static pad. Ill do that tomorrow. The spring was very flaccid and seems to be useless. Should I replace this or is it of  trivial function

taking prior advice from many of you . I have removed the hub assembly and will now take the rest apart. I noticed the bearing retainer looked a bit proud. Should it be screwed in further>

Hi.
I've refurbed my front wheel and reassembled the axle. I don't know how much to tighten up the final nut which holds the assembly in place. I know that this nut and the other end are clamped by the front wheel retainers so it won't come undone but I think that overdoing it will affect the function of the speedo gear box etc.

Actually mine doesn't look like that. One end definitely has curled flanges as if they were twisted down.
Maybe that happened when I took the bearings out. I banged a lot.
Ill buy a new one

Thanks Julie.
I seem to recall that is I dismantled the parts the axle just pulled  out after the outer bits were removed (it was firmly fixed)
After that I was faced with the 2 bearings. The r side was removed and then the spacer just slid out. I then removed the L side bearing

I have the same number of parts as shown on the blown up drawing.
I intending putting the L side bearing back first as it has a seat cast into the hub. then insert the spacer then fit the r side bearing. Should I use the axle to guide it in some way??
