Project Board / Re: Seeley Honda #SH7-672

I am still checking out the engine on my bike.  The exhaust note is not quite right to me and the #3 cylinder is running rich (not firing every stroke ?), it seems the #3 is being a bit lazy  :D.

I am curious why #3 and #1 compression readings are down on #2 and #4, although they are within the range of acceptable (just).  This could be due to the long time the engine was not running so may improve with a bit more use (I have only put 150 miles on it since I got the bike).  I would guess a top end re-build/service is in order but I'm not sure it essential at the moment, any thoughts on the best way ahead appreciated.

Cheers  Geoff

Hello Geoff,

Just a thought but I am wondering if you have cleaned out the carbs, what with it having stood for a while, may be some rubbish or blockage in the fuel system causing the different plug colours. Number 4 seems to be running the hottest, followed by number 1, then 2 and then 3, with 1 and 2 looking about right.

Had you just taken the plugs out, as was, to check them or was it after a "plug chop"?

Oh and good luck with the magazine review, would be nice if they could include all those makers you listed.

All the Best,

CB750 / Re: CR carbs
« on: April 12, 2016, 12:28:18 PM »
Thanks Mark

I would have thought Dave Silvers would stock them, but according to the guy who built the bike they don't, I am not desperate just yet as the bike is starting up OK & I have checked the carbs with the filters off & the pump seems to be working, but not tried it on the road yet.
if anybody else know where to get hold of these accelerator pump diaphragms please pop-it on here..my bike is a 1977 CB 750.

Hello Greebo,

If you are still looking for the accelerator pump diaphragm they have them on CMSNL here:

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k7-four-england_model14390/diaph-set-pump-rubberspring_16021mc9771p/#.VwzZLTGrHEY

They are €17.00, that's about £13.55 at the current exchange rate.

I think you will find that the unit for the '79 model is different as it had CV carbs, it looks to be different from the fische I have looked at anyway. The 'Micky Mouse ears' appear to be positioned differently.

All the Best,

Hello All,

I have been able to download most of the .pdf files from the link supplied for the archive of greenbushacres site kindly supplied by AshimotoK0, except for the Honda Carburetion Manual and the CB750 Service Bulletin #39 (Which would not respond to selection).

I was however able to download the Honda Carburetion Manual via the later link also supplied by AshimotoK0 but the one supplied that enabled the download of all the files in .zip format did not include the CB750 Service Bulletin #39. This is the only one that I am missing. Has anyone been able to acquire a copy?

If anyone needs any of the above files, let me know via PM and I will see about getting a copy to you. Or if it would be preferable for me to supply them to a central location, again let me know via a PM.

Many thanks AshimotoK0 for all your efforts to ensure the information is not lost to those of us who need it.

All the Best,

Announcements / Bad news for Bonneville.
« on: August 27, 2015, 08:18:52 PM »
Hello All,

I hope I have placed this thread in the right place, if not could the moderators please relocate it?

Today I have heard some disturbing news regarding the future, or not, of the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Please read:

Subject: Bonneville Petition

The Bonneville Salt Flats (BSF) have been under threat for decades. In the 1960s, the land-speed racing community alerted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the agency charged with overseeing the BSF, that there was a serious problem. No protective action was taken until 1997 with the start of a salt brine pumping program proposed by the racers. There was no need to wait so long. A study published in 1979 detailed measures that could be undertaken to protect the BSF such as removing the salt brine-collection ditches. In 1989, the BLM itself warned that the BSF was endangered. Other studies echoed those sentiments. Despite a significant salt-brine pumping program, it has become obvious that the amounts being pumped are insufficient to overcome the estimated 50-75 million tons of salt that were removed over the previous six decades.

The cancellation of 2015’s Speed Week due to deteriorating conditions at the BSF has helped build a large coalition effort to address the problem. With renewed focus, the team has constructed a plan to save the BSF. Team members from Save the Salt, the Utah Coalition, SCTA-BNI and USFRA are working with state government officials from Utah and Nevada, along with members of Congress and the BLM, engineers and geologists to draft a comprehensive Reclamation Plan. Additional information will be shared in the coming days and weeks so that the racing community can use their collective voices in demanding its implementation.

A petition is being circulated to stop the mining of this Area of Critical Environmental Concern, without more aggressive management by the government entities currently responsible for this unique area there will not be a salt flat in the coming years. Please take the few minutes to submit your signature to this issue and start towards the resolution of the situation.

Here is the link, and those who are not resident in USA just leave out the zip code. Don't forget you have to verify/confirm when you get the security check response. Please feel free to forward this on to any friends or acquaintances that would be interested in preserving this natural wonder and the land speed racing that has occurred on top of it for decades.

Thanks for your help

Tom

They currently have 2,244 signatures so far and need a further 97,765 by September 10, 2015 to reach the required total of 100,000, they need all the help they can get.

It would be a tragedy to see this great tradition lost to future speed freaks. I think most would agree that it is one of the greatest parts of motorised heritage that the world has. Please sign the petition and spread the word as much as possible.

Many thanks.

All the Best,

Rob54.
