Announcements / Caton Show
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:17:06 AM »
Hi,
Just had notice of a local show at Caton on A683 between Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale.
There should be quite a few entries of bikes which is a new addition to the traditional village event held each year.
It's well worth a visit and entry with a qualifying bike is free. Just turn up and enjoy the day.
More flyers will be available at Garstang Autojumble on Sunday 19th May.
See you there?

This Thursday 2nd May is the second meet at Wray village for 2013.

Starts at 6.00pm this year and the cafe will be open.

The event co-incides with Wray Scarecrow Festival and as ever, nearly every house and business in the village has at least one exhibit.

CB350/400 / Kickstart
« on: January 31, 2013, 07:47:03 AM »
Hi everyone,
A problem I have with my rarely used (500 miles last year) CB400/2 is that the kickstart stays down when it's operated.
By 'jiggling' it about a bit it can be pulled back up into position by hand, but it feels a bit rough as if something is broken in the casing.
I've never had cause to use the kickstart and the fault was only found a long time after an MoT where the bike was left for a few days.

What can I expect to find when I eventually start to sort it out and how much of a job will it be ? :(

What is it? / Fairing
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:42:32 PM »
A good friend of mine acquired this fairing complete with mirrors and belly pan believed to be off an early Japanese motorcycle.

Can anyone please identify it ?

It's for sale if anyone is interested. Would need picking up near Lancaster.

CB350/400 / Stafford Show
« on: April 27, 2012, 01:54:15 PM »
How many members on here are going to Stafford Classic Bike Show on Sunday ?
I'm travelling down by car with friends and hoping to meet up with one or two other owners.

Other Bikes / A little cracker
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:07:01 PM »
Spotted this little jewel on Wednesday. A Honda Benly which had been customised for a young lass by Motografix in Rotherham. www.motografix.com
For the first time in years I hadn't taken my normal camera and the bike cam doesn't really do it justice.  :(
Mark Jarvis the owner of the graphic design firm, started doing restorations and customising as a hobby and has a number of finished jobs for sale. Coincidentally it turned out that he also made the special graphics for my main bike. It's a small world.

Announcements / Classic Bike nights
« on: March 07, 2012, 11:05:05 AM »
Hello all classic bike enthusiasts.
For those of you within riding distance of Wray village near Kirkby Lonsdale, the Classic Bike nights are starting again in April and running through to September.
We usually had around 50/60 attendees each night in 2011 with a good mix of machinery.
I'm not connected to the event in any way other than being a regular attender.  :)

CB350/400 / Oil filter cover bolt seized
« on: November 22, 2011, 11:53:38 PM »
Flushed with success after passing the MOT I ran the bike for a few miles prior to changing the oil.
After dropping the oil which looked quite old I tried to undo the retaining bolt for a filter change.
Closer examination showed the head to be slightly rounded off and seemingly immoveable with a bihex socket. The bolt appears to be the larger head type and previous attempts had obviously been made to move it judging by the chisel marks on the flange.

Where to start for the best ?
If I arc welded a bar to the head of the bolt, would I need to isolate the alternator and remove the battery, or would it be better to grind the head off the bolt in order to remove the cover and filter, then renew the bolt ?

Has anyone had this problem and found an easy option ?

CB350/400 / Front brake locked on
« on: September 26, 2011, 08:36:41 AM »
After 6 weeks of not using the 400/4 I went to move the bike and couldn't because the front brake is locked onto the disc.
The bike ran well the last time I used it and initially it could be moved around in the garage without a problem.
Before I start spannering today what do I need to look out for ?
All advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

CB350/400 / Tyres
« on: June 06, 2011, 10:16:04 PM »
The tyres on my 1977 400/4 are Barracudas (Cheng Shin ?) and appear to be in very good condition.
However, while on a run yesterday a friend commented that they weren't suitable for the bike.
I checked more closely and found that they are indeed Tubeless tyres.
Could they be causing my sense of uneasiness at motorway limit speeds ? I don't have problems with my main bike at much higher speeds, (on the autobahn of course  :-X) even two up and carrying a fortnights luggage. I'm using the recommended pressures for the bike.

New Member Introductions / New member and older motorcyclist
« on: April 02, 2011, 10:13:39 AM »
Hello everyone, I finally managed to get to grips with registering as a member. Many thanks to SteveD for his invitation to join and subsequent help.
I've ben riding and owning bikes continually since the early 1950's, the majority of them recently being BMW's of which I currently have 2.

I recently bought a 1977 Honda CB400/4 F2 model and although very tidy and sold as 'fully restored', it needed a few jobs sorting.
Fork seals, wiring and the suspension being the main ones. The aftermarket rear units didn't fit, so they wouldn't work.
However I've bought a pair of Koni's which I'm fitting today.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers. :) :)
