Title: Is my cam tensioner too far gone?
Post by: SteveW on February 11, 2024, 04:43:41 PM
I have a few hair line cracks but only at each end, should I replace?

If it was mine and the engine was that far apart I would change it. Hairline cracks indicate it is about to break up. Think about hairline cracks on a cam belt in a car engine, it would be considered to be overdue for a replacement. You don't want to reassemble the engine only to have the tensioner break up at speed.

I agree with Dave yes it's another expense but you get peace of mind.👍

Mine was like that and I replaced the blade with an aftermarket one from Cms. It seemed to have  less spring than the one I took out so I would go for an oem replacement if I were you.

Silvers has the entire assembly for £170 ish, Wemoto has just the blade part which is all I need for £45.

At that price it’s probably aftermarket. Cms has the original blade for £91 and aftermarket for £34. I cheaped out but then wished I hadn’t.
