CB500/550 / carb pilot screw
« on: September 12, 2021, 05:26:56 PM »
On my 1972 Honda CB500 K1 I've noticed my spark plugs seem a little sooty and the electrod insulation is not quite the light tan/grey colour that it should be, I screwed the pilot screw out to the workshop manual setting and it does seem a little heavy on fuel, any ideas of the best solution to weakening the mixture?

CB500/550 / 1972 honda cb500k1

I've completed a nut and bolt rebuild of my 1972 Honda CB500K1, it starts ok but wont rev past about 4500 revs, I've narrowed it down to fuel stavation. During the rebuild all the carbs were ultrasonically cleaned and vapour blasted, then fitted with brand new carb sets with the correct sized jets for the standard air filter. I took off the tank to drain it becuse I thought there may be a problem with the petrol tap which is also new. Petrol started to drain from the fuel pipes then started to slow until it finally stopped all together. I open the fuel cap and it started running again then stopped every time I closed the tap. The petrol cap was again new, I compaired it with the original and noticed the original has a blank rivet which holds the rubber seal in place, the new cap has a phillips screw which can alter the hight of the seal holder. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this before, and if you have do you screw the screw in to let in more air or do you screw it out. cheers alan

CB500/550 / carb needle valve setting
« on: September 13, 2019, 03:57:03 PM »
does anyone know the correct needle valve setting for a 1973 Honda CB500K1, I've fitted new carb sets but I dont know if any of the previous owners have messed about with the setting so I've left them the same. The problem is it seems to be a sluggish, it also takes ages to start from cold?

CB500/550 / honda cb 500k1 primary chain
« on: August 22, 2019, 07:33:32 PM »
anyone out there know what the primary chain length is for a 1973 honda cb500k1, mine seems to have had a go at the crank cases so it must be flapping about a bit! bit I can't find the wear limit length in any of the service manuals. If anyone had an original genuine honda work shop manual it may tell you in there.
cheers alan

does anyone know where I can get the strip that runs around the tank on the 1973 honda cb 500 k1. My tanks shot and I have seen loads of decent ones on ebay but non have the trim that runs around the flange of the tank. I've tried the usual suspects david siver spares etc but they are now an obsolet part.
