CB350/400 / Exhaust studs issue
« on: Today at 06:49:27 PM »
I thought the lengthy rust prone exhaust studs 'on the 400/4' were a buzzing fly and plain got on with it. But seeing the genuine ones on the DSS site I realise I've detected what might be another home made part some bum down the owners list added. The rear brake rod and speedo cable grommet on the front fender are other homemade things I inherited from this bodger.  ::)
These things are 2 1/3 inches long, does anyone know the length of originals?
I'll get a set somewhere along the line but at £55.00 a full set it will have to wait a month or two, other priorities first, I might take the trouble to cut these back a bit for now (maybe  :-\

What is it? / Re: Mysterious Exhaust Teeth

No, they'll be fine George as the clamp down into the copper exhaust gaskets
Thanks Julie, point seen. Those exhaust gaskets though were one of the things that were missing when I first got Elen six years back, the teeth weren't missing like most of mine though!  ;D It took me a lot of finding out, as was the case with the starter clutch you told me I needed to get as well.  ;)

What is it? / Mysterious Exhaust Teeth

On four of my eight exhaust collars (CB400F) I have these teeth  ;D in the past I plain put them in the way they came out and thought nothing of it, however in recent months (many) it hasn't been me who put the exhaust system back on so I went to the CMSL site to see if that would help but they didn't exist there. By now I'm taking a closer look at them and they aren't exactly uniform, like my own damn teeth even. It must be some kind of damage or mod by a PO. Can anyone shine any light on this

As I approach 20mph and onto 30mph my speedo starts wagging within about a 5mph field, enough to cost a lot of money in London today. What might be wrong, is this something Gauge Restorers could fix?  :-\

In spite of this, I think this error will vanish into the past as we have a need to be choosey and look for E5?  8)

Might be worth asking Julie I believe she assembles the kits from her stock of Ob rings.
Will do. ;)

Julies kit contains all the O rings for a 400.
I'll remember that for next time, but well, y'know... I'm only after two little ones!  ;)

CB350/400 / A hunt for seals
« on: May 04, 2024, 03:37:40 PM »
I'm on a hunt for some seals, and I don't mean with a club either!  ;D When I had my recent engine rebuild done, they mechanic told me that the large seal for the oil pump wasn't in the seal kit I had supplied. I got that part from DSS no problem but it turns out there are some very small seals that also ought to be changed (why not say before?) as I've still got some leaking I'll endeavour to get them.
They are parts 285 and the twice numbered (?) 286/7 0n the CMSL diagram I've posted here. https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb400f-england_model14639/partslist/E01-3.html  .
The seals numbered 285 (part # 91302044013) on the picture I can get from DSS as they are in stock, but 286/7 isn't in the associated parts list on the CMSL page I just linked, so I can't pull up the proper part number/s to put into the DSS search box, so I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

If the MBE is awarded to those who stand out in their field, why hasn't Worzel Gummidge been given one?  :o

Are you sure you're not making a rocket launch pad in the guise of a bike park?  ;)

Misc / Open / Re: Sump gasket...what to think?
« on: May 02, 2024, 12:49:05 PM »
Looks alright to me George as long as you knock out the bolt holes first! I grease paper gaskets on both sides, I just think it makes it easier to remove them although there are various thoughts if it is a good idea or not considering the heat of the engine. You shouldn't need any form of other sealent, Honda didn't use any and they made the bike!
That would be red grease yes?
