The tips don't look too good either. But they measure from 5.6mm at the bottom to 6mm at the top which I believe is within spec. Anyway here are the pics http://imgur.com/Kf72FF7http://imgur.com/tCzd5mnI've been building this thing since last june so what's one more week to wait . If you could have a look that would be great. Cheers

As far as I can tell it has never been opened up before, but yeah I'm sourcing a new gear, thankfully they're easier to find.
Are you sure it's hardened, what would explain the colour difference? To my mind it would make sense to not have it hardened to prevent damage to the tranny.

Cheers I don't know if these are any better, but yeah it's the central fork. http://imgur.com/OIchp7ahttp://imgur.com/SiKymq4Tell me if you want a specific angle. Also would really appreciate a good used one. Edit: I assembled the tranny and there seems to be no damage on the gear that the central fork sits on. I also cycled it through the gears with no problem but I don't know how conclusive that is. The only wear is some chipping on the counter top gear without any wear on the corresponding gear. Can I get away with this? http://imgur.com/N0aHfch

Happy Friday everyone! So I've slowly begun my reassembly when I noticed that the central gear shift fork has two ridges and other marks from what I think was some serious friction. She was really hard to shift past 2nd when I got her so might this be the cause? Here's a picture: http://imgur.com/g4LciLXAs far as I can tell there is no damage on the rest of the transmission but I'll check again before reassembly. So can I just grind off those ridges or do I have to replace it? Much appreciated

at 20 quid +VAT a pop I'll attempt making my own first. Some stainless steel rod should do

maybe i could just drill a hole for the screw. Shouldn't affect the structural integrity too much should it? the screw would probably give out before the spindle if something happens.
How much would you want for four of them? Saw your edit
If I were to make my own what material would I use?

Great good to know. Guess I'll measure my old hose for the length. As for the spindle seems it's possible to fit the locked type after some modifications. Found this on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDIkDb_HhKwSo would any of you two gents have four candles...I mean four lockable spindles Cheers

Hi gents,
Looking to replace my front brake hoses. Does anyone know if the 750 brake hoses would fit on a 500.
Also would it be possible to replace rocker shafts which come as one per rocker for the later models 550 with one for two rockers, or should I lathe my own.
cheers

That's a nice looking engine hope mine will look as good.
I also did some polishing on it, specifically the head cover as well as the side panels. I know some people put on lacquer on their side panels, sounds like a good idea. Would it be suitable for the head cover as well or should I use something like clear VHT paint?
Cheers

True it even says that on the old bearing (except now it's made in taiwan). It's just that apparently for some people NTN stands for never trust nippon, but I guess they're good enough for the transmission on a CB.
Sorry if it was a stupid question.

Hi all, Sorry to butt in Seabe but I have a similar question. I left one of the bearings in the crankcase ( http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb500k1-four-general-export_model14659/partslist/E15.html#results part#24) when I put it through the dishwasher so it picked up some surface rust and now it feels a bit grainy. I bought an open 6205 c3 NTN but now I'm thinking if there wasn't a better brand or type. Also is there a proper installation procedure or is it fairly straight forward? Cheers

Cheers for the reply and happy new year.
When it comes to polishing could I use the strip of 600 grit and shoelace technique?

Thanks for the reply.
From my own research people have run knicked cranks after polishing. Would this not be a similar situation. Could this lead to engine failure?
Cheers
