Here's something from way back (and a long way away)
Has anyone here done this or have DS started making their own / found a secret stash ?

After looking for one of these for many years (mine was broken when I bought the bike in 2004 and an engineer friend made a replacement, however it was never quite hard enough and needed regular adjustment) I was lucky enough to be able to buy a couple from Trigger on this site.
I've used one, but if you need it and he can't supply, you are welcome to my spare for the same price that I bought it for.
The clutch (with the new pushrod fitted) is the best that it's ever been!

The measurements on the USA site in 2011 are wrong, a 9.5mm rod doesn't fit in to a 8mm hole ;)

I use one of Triggers excellent steel
pushrods.well worth the money. Fits perfectly. It would take hours to make.not worth struggling unless you have a lathe and lots of time.

It's a 'long time ago' but in my Apprentice Engineer days in the 60's/ 70's I recall making various bit and bobs out of Silver Steel (easily available from Engineering Suppliers) which were easy to heat treat and (dependant upon the heat treatment) were quite hard and durable.
Worth a try......and if somebody gets it right there may be a bit of business to be had with Forum Members.
-
Keep up Alan ;D ;D ;D Trigger has been making these from silver steel and selling them to forum members for yonks ::) ::)
-
Cheers Julie.........your 'Bedside Manner' isn't the best is it ? .....nobody mentioned Silver Steel in the thread hence my two pennyworth.
I'll now keep my gob shut until 2020.....and sit in a darkened cubby hole under the stairs.
LOL.

Has Trigger got any left? How much are they please?

I am out of stock at the moment and don't have the time to make any at the moment. If you PM flatfour, he may still have one.

Okay, no problem thanks for your response. I know an engineer who's tooled up to tackle the job.
Mine's broke :(

a very common issue
-
usually caused by a loose chain!
-
That makes sense then because whoever ran my bike last left the chain so loose you could almost lift it off the front sprocket without slackening off the rear wheel!
I've sourced some Stainless 8mm diameter rod and am going to make a few up.
Thanks for your replies.
Peter.

Stainless is too soft, I know as I made 5 that all failed QC ;)
-
Okay, they didn't pass QC, did they break in operation though?

No they bent. You need to harden the ends, so stainless is useless.
-
Okay, good to know, thank you
-
I also used one made by an engineer friend of mine from stainless steel before fitting the item made by Trigger. It needed constant adjustment as it wore so quickly.
-
Ohh yes stainless is no good
I made one about 3ish years back out of stainless....when my bike ate the chain gaurd and fubard the clutch rod and cinch,
It's been fine but today I was out at wheels day in aldershot and the adjustment on my clutch was getting lower and lower ....until it was pretty much lever to grip biting point....
Luckily I had bought a spare genuine one back some time ago and was luckily enough able to find it and pop it in
But here's the one I made up all mushroomed on the end causing the dramatic disappearing clutch issue....
-
Nice ;D That will never happen to Triggers push rods ;)
-
Yeah it worked really well and lasted fairly well but I was surprised at the final outcome
Have you made any more yet trig
